93 Start and Idle Problems

My '93 V6 Automatic has been having issue starting regardless of the engine temp. The idle is relatively fast (1300-1500) all the time. When I start the engine at normal operating temp, it hesitates alot and when it does start, the idle jumps back up to 1300-1500.

Rarely, will the idle stay in the normal range (800-950). That's only sometimes when the engine is warmed up.

Any suggestions.

Make sure you're topped off on coolant. The Coolant runs thru the throttle body to tell the engine to idle higher to warm up the engine. IF you are low on coolant, air can cool the pipe, and trick the engine into thinking it's cold.

Thanks for the tip! I checked the radiator and coolant resevoir and they're both topped off.

What about the Cold Start Injector? How can I test if it's bad? People told me that's what the problem is.

Have you noticed a large decrease in fuel economy? If so, it's probably the cold start injector. One way to test it, is to disconnect the electrical leads to it.

if you have a chilton and a multi meter it should tell you how you can test it with the meter to see if its working i will check mine and see if there is anything that will help

Where are the leads going to it? Is there a Cold Start Injector Switch also? Or is that the same thing?

Thanks, I know I have a multimeter somewhere in my garage but I don't really know where the leads to the injector are. Where are they located?

the cold start is on the intake pass side .disconnects easy sould be able to ohm it out ! i think they are either 8 or 10 mm bolts that hold it on

Nice, I'll test it this weekend. What if it isn't getting any ohm's?

I've also heard that when the engine is cold, you can start it up and then listen to the intake and you should hear the swith clicking which means it's working. Is this true?

haven't heard that one . i know with the knock sensor when you ohm it out as long as i was 0 it was good if it mesures resistance the sensor is bad will have to see if it is the same with the cold start inj
