Hello All, I just bough my first 4runner a couple weeks ago, a 93 3.0L 5 speed. Despite it's problems, I fell instantly in love. It had a case of the shakes and wasn't running too smooth so I began to go to work. I replaced the plugs, wires, distributer cap and rotor, air filter, and fuel filter. This smoothed things out a bit but it still has sporadic idle. Even warmed up, sometimes it's at 1K, sometimes 2.3K. I took a look inside the TB and it looks pretty clean. I checked the timing and it's way off, like 25btdc. I set it back at 10 but it was so underpowered I had to pull over on the side of the freeway and set it back to 25ish. It's still underpowered in the hills, barely making it up at 60mph in 3rd. I haven't been able to find any vacuum leaks, it isn't throwing a code, and disconnecting the TPS didn't do anything. My guess is timing belt skipped, but that wouldn't explain the sporadic idle, would it? Thanks in advance for your help!
