We are trying to decide between a 2000 4Runner SR5 4WD auto (207K) and a 1994 4runner SR5 4WD 5-speed (222K) described as. The latter is more off-road ready--we fish a lot and need rough road access--but older and has more miles. It is, not surprisingly, less expensive. It does have a 5-speed manual transmission, which we consider a plus. The other truck is newer (2000) and more of "a street vehicle," but capable of what we need it to do (it's a 4Runner after all!). We're looking for general impressions about which truck to go with and what to look for when we see each.
The 2000 is, according to the current owner, in "very good shape, clean, 207K. New rubber, fuel and brake lines. New chrome front and rear. New 2" class III hitch. Power windows, locks and moon roof. Runs like a Yoda!! ALL SYSTEMS WORK WELL. NO FLUID LEAKS. NO OIL BURN." Additional information: the instrument cluster light doesn't work and "The brakes are good the rubber and belts are new. The guy before had the transmission rebuilt. No smoke, no leaks, no ticks. Interior good for 12+ years."
The 1994 4runner SR5 4WD is described by its owner as "a 1994 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 with 222K "but you wouldn't know it by looking at it, or driving it." This one has Downey headers on it, an electric radiator fan, K&N Air intake, 1" lifted with air bags in rear springs. It has an All Pro Off Road custom rear bumper with tow hitch and KC Daylighter lights mounted out back. "Truck was originally from Californina, and has almost no rust. Frame is in awesome shape!" According to owner, "all fluids have recently been switched, performance front brakes, with drilled and slotted rotors, and EBC pads (they stop 30% better than stock)
and new calipers, all this summer. 32" BFG MT/km tires with 70% tread left. Bushwacker flares, and Mickey Thompson Classic aluminum rims." He told me there is "a small exhaust leak in the pipe somewhere. Not a big deal, but easy to fix. (welded likely)," but other than that he says it's good to go.
Does anyone here have a strong feeling on which one we should be leaning towards? Thanks!
