95 3.0 into 90 4runner swap.

Hey fellow toyota folk, I've got a couple questions. I've found this site to be very helpful reading peoples threads but finally have a question I havnt seen a thread about. Here goes...

I have a 1990 4runner. It had a 3.0 , it's automatic 4wd. Due to knock sensor hell with that motor, I pulled it and put in a 3.0 from a 95 4runner. I got it to run for a little bit, but now it has trouble firing. I understand that the 95 has a updated distributor and different plug on the igniter. I made a harness to plug my 90 harness to the 95 distributor and was able to make it run that way for a little bit but with a miss.

Can I put my 90 distributor into the 95 motor and use my 90 igniter and coil to make this work? Any other concerns? I know this sounds like a mess but I'm determined to make this work!!

Dont know if this is the problem or not but the actual computer is different. I have 2 91's one is a dd and the other is a project with a blown engine. In my project it has the newer 3.0 so it should work but i know on mine they did swap the computers because it say 93-95 on it or something like that froom a junkyard i didn't see where you are at but if you need or want it ill sell it to you cheap and you have to pay for shipping but it is probably cheaper and easier to find one where you are at im in washington

I figured it out. Installed my 1990 distributor into the 95, started right up, purrs like a kitten. Thanks for the help BigRyan.

That will do it they are a little bit different
