96-02 4Runner Rear Bumper

I have a 97 4Runner SR5. I have been trying to find a new rear chrome replacement bumper. I know the 3rd gen runs from 96-02. I can understand why the 99-02 front bumpers don't fit my car but why wouldn't a 99-02 rear bumper (center piece) fit?
Are the brackets different? Would it be a minor tweak/weld?
I found a new one on Craigslist but it says 99-02. Google is not finding me a rhyme or reason it would not work.

A quick look up on a Parts website resulted in different part numbers for the two "generations"

5210535360 for 99+
5210535130 for -98

Other than that I cannot say.

I believe that the side rear fenders connecting to the bumper are bigger, and require bigger mud flaps too. I'm doing the 97 swap onto my 2002 runner now. So you'd need to get different mud flaps and side flanges pretty much.

thanks! Stinks that I finally find the part I need and learn there is a divide in the generation for the rear bumper too.

ahhhhh! I wish. I'm in Virginia. If we can figure cost + shipping...
If you don't want to deal with that...that's perfectly fine.

It'd be cheaper to find a scrapyard, i just recently went through hell and back with shipping a front bumper....
