Lots of people run 5.29 (common toyota ratio) and 5.38 (common dana ratio) with no issues. I just wouldn't put it in 4wd on dry pavement.

yes I have done my research and found some information on full size axle swaps but not much. Ive read mostly on the d44 out of a grand wagoneer and will most likely end up that rout if I cant salvage parts off the ford. I believe the axles are about 7 in wider... no need for wheel spacers there aha.
And asking me if Ive pushed my ifs to its limits is an understatement, when I said my front end is shot I meant it. Shes been jumper, crashed twice, dinged, dented and bashed. I will conciser 35s but I dont rock crawl so ground clearance from the axle down doesnt really concern me.
Im not asking advice on should I sas it, your not going to convince me otherwise. My only questions are:
-Is it practical to use axles off a old ford or chevy, front and rear all leafs
-how to keep the lowest possible lift
-and good write ups or build links
I am researching also, just wanted some information tailored to my specific question, alot of threads are old, outdated, and pictures wont come up. If your cant/ dont want to provide that its perfectly fine.

Ive read that also and I might consider it but I hear even with 35s if you wheel it hard the waggy d44 doesnt hold up when locked.

Since I am feeling like such a generous guy today I will try and nudge you into a better direction.
You have so many different ways to go about doing a sas I will just throw up a few common setups that I have searched and learned about.
Steering: toy ifs box, f150, Saginaw box.
Brakes: v6 calipers(toy axle), 44-60=stock
Front Axles: mini axle, fj80(better choice but need adapter to mini transfercase$$),waggy 44, ford hp44 (fullsize or cut down to waggy length), ford hp60, custom axles I.e 609, 9.5/toy, 14/60.
Now if you spent the money on inch worms adapter to change to a mini truck transfer case you could use a Chevy/dodge axle in front. But would be hindered by the exhaust being in the way for clearance.
Rear axles: ifs toy(stock for what you have), 9", 60, 70, 14.
Front Suspension: smart way 3link(check out 4wdunderground) simple ruf with tg or sky sas kit.
Motor:t100 oil pan and pickup(if 3.4) if rz only thing I have seen is chilkats pan.
Also people have been cutting.the front of the frame and remaking it to sit lower, have more travel, and have a better place to mount everything and not have to plate the crap out of the frame.
You can run 4.88 and 35s and be happy. Most people say 5.29 for 35s and up but they either have the 4 Banger or do a lot of rock crawling.
You can do 5.29 rear 5.38 front. That's within I think the 20%? Gear ratio.
You also have to ask yourself since your regearing are you going to add a locker? Selectable, auto or welded?

I suppose that's a fair point, I'm more used to the first gen IFS. The '99 is my wife's, if it's ever mine I'm likely to get rid of all the electronic whizbangery I can.
My point stands though - you're going into an SAS having done your research, knowing exactly what you're going to gain and what you're going to lose and what's is going to take and you're ok with all of that. That's how it should be. The OP on the other hand is suffering from the cult of the solid axle, he's got no idea WHY he doesn't like his IFS, he's just heard that it's "weak" and knows solid axles are macho and his friends have one so he wants one.
You hit it right on the spot, I want to spend 3000$ that
I bust my ass for 60 hours a week to look "macho" bravo.. hmmm let's go back to the basics, sfa: better articulation, ability to run larger tires, durability, simplistic design
and then ifs: handles high speeds better, ability to jump when modified, ride quality, all off which I could care less about. I've wrecked too many vehicles hauling ass, I'm never jumping my vehicle again, and I'm 19 years old I could give a damn about ride quality.
