97 4runner price?

I'm sorry to do this as my 2nd post on the forum because I've been on other forums where people have joined to ask similar questions to never return.

That said, I'm going to look at a 97 SR5 4x4 tomorrow. Asking price is $5000.

Here's what I know about it:
1 owner vehicle.
never wrecked.
210,000 miles
timing belt/water pump changed at 100k and possibly once since then.
looks to be bone stock. very clean inside
never been in the mud.
sunroof doesn't work but has been sealed and doesn't leak
antenna doesn't operate.
New clutch and battery in 2012
new head gasket.
brakes/rotors changed 6 years ago.

So based on that would 5k be a good price or should I try to get it lower? I looked at KBB and that value is about 2400. My brother tells me this is a good deal. Just curious what you guys think.

forgot to include it is a 5 speed and has no rust, never wrecked, only a few small dings in the body.

I would try to get it for 4000. People always ask more then they will actually take.

I got mine for 3k at 196k miles. Same issues, sunroof was sealed, antenna doesnt work.
Then again i kind of felt like i was robbing the guy.

Mine has the exact same problems as yours, (sunroof, antenna, etc.) but all that maintenance was done right before the guy sold it to me. I got it for 3k. Mine has 225k miles.

pay for a pre purchase inspection with a compression test
then you have barter power
pull up KBB on your phone and show the seller that and a wad of cash
have a number in your head and do not go over it

Considering I got my 96 with way fewer problems (and fewer miles) for $2200, I would keep looking. Unless he's willing to come way down on the price. Of course.....mine's just 2wd .

Factor in the possibility of spending another couple of grand on items after you buy it too. New pads and rotors possibly, fluid flush and change out, new filters, possible timing belt change, unforeseen and unknown items, etc.

Never fails that stuff will need to be done right after you buy it. Just sayin.

And I agree price is too high. Should be closer to the KBB price in my opinion but seems to vary depending on your part of the country.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to go look at it in a little bit and see if they won't come off the price. I'm hopeful that a wad of $100s will do a lot of the talking.

New head gasket? Do a compresion test on all 6 cylinders, air leaks to coolant and coolant leaks to motor oil.
When the engine is COLD, open the radiator cap and add coolant all the way to the top of the radiator. Start then engine and look for a steady flow of air bubbles. If there are lot of air bubbles flowing, bad head gasket.
If motor oil is milky, then coolant is coming in contact with motor oil.

I bought a 97 Limited 4x4 with an e-locker in the rear diff for $5000 6months ago (and only an hour from Ennis, TX)

I think its too high. I would pay 4500 though. depending on how i felt other maintenance was handled
