97 4Runner Problem

I need help. I changed the alternator today. I removed the battery cable and changed the alternator without a problem. I was tightening up the battery cable and dropped the ratchet and it touched both the positive and negative terminals only giving a quick spark. The vehicle won't crank. It sounds like it tries to crank when you turn the key over with your foot off the brake. When you press the brake you get nothing. Whether the brake is pressed or not the windows do not power, and neither do the power locks or exterior lights. I have since changed the battery as it needed changing anyway, but any advice where to start would be great.

look at your fuseable links and use an ohm meeter to check good luck

Possible fried ECU ........

My son, a toyota tech and service advisor, was just telling me about a 4Runner that came into the dealership after the owner dropped wrench arcoss his battery. Problem solved when the fried ECU was swapped out.

I have dropped a wrench on both terminals before, it shouldn't be an issue. I would think a blown AM1 fuse or the ECU is a good place to start. The other option is that the alternator was not your original issue....maybe you need to look at other powering components like the ignition switch or starter. Good luck!
