97 PreRunner Build 2wd!

Maybe I missed it, do you plan on going LT? You could pull a shitload of travel with 2WD, I would think you could pull almost 20" fairly easily in the front. Just saw you post on Facebook too :)

Yes. I do want to go full LT in the front eventually. U just can't afford the expensive lower a arm and new shocks just yet. I'm working on it though!!! It will happen!!

So I'm going to wire up the HELLA horns today. Just can't figure out what one is power and what one is ground.

I was told that it didn't matter when it gets hooked up just as long ad one of the them is grounded and powered.

Just returned from Ocotillo Wells SVRA for the new years weekend. We had a blast out there testing the 4runner.

Got the vehicle up to 70+ MPH on a straight away that had the perfect size whoops for my truck. It likes anything under two feet any bigger and the shocks will start "packing" meaning it can't rebound fast enough before the next bump until its "packed" at full bump. We avoided this by staying around 40-55 to experiment with the truck and see how it would change. Great time learning that....

When on Shell Reef Express, we opened it up, the Total Chaos Upper in conjunction with my front coil and shock made washboards just vanish. It didn't matter how fast or slow I went I was unsuccessful in getting it to shutter on wash boarded sections.

The sand was the firmest I have ever seen it. I mean it was FULL of moisture. I could go anywhere on devils slide and I was almost willing to be that I would have made it more than half way up blowsand. The 3 foot woop section at the bottom near the rock was non existent. The fluffy fine grain almost silt that tires just spin in was also no where to be found.

Just wanted to put a tire on something!! Goosed it a little and was disappointed. I only got wheel spin from one wheel, witch to me is irregular. Normally when I floor it I get two burn marks, here only one. Maybe the fluid is toast?? I'm am at high RPM's in the dunes but I'm smart about it. When I loose momentum instead of flooring it and digging in I just kinda feather the gas, so I don't know. I do pay attention to my truck, and she thanks me by providing me reliable transport even after jumping her 13 times in a row trying to one up my best friend neighbor. LOL!

Before leaving on the highway I opened the hood to check on things like normal and was treated to the surprise of the battery hanging sideways down near my belt. So cool!! Glad I caught that crap before the positive battery terminal grounded our on the edge of the valve cover like a friend I've seen. So I rigged everything back to normal just need a longer body ground line. So glad I had terminal cover on the positive side.

Also was treated to a nasty little surprise while articulating the rear end. A loud metal on metal sound, that was hollow......hmmmm what could it be??

Well my first guess was the correct guess. (Always makes you feel good knowing you know your shit:)

Weeks before this trip I had gotten stuck in Barstow. Trying to get to a remote location to film the holiday 200. Got stuck in a wash had to back up, then go up a sketchy (4x4 for sure) escape route. Went for it and got stuck half way, and tried to reverse and got that noise I just was talking about. We got out that night and I never heard it again, I assumed it was just a rock getting flung into the wheel well but I had that feeling it wasn't .....

Well I decided to get under and take a look after just pulling out if camp, passing the neighbors camped next to us I goosed it a bit and got the worst sounding metal on metal sound yet.

Got underneath, my suspicions were confirmed. I told my friend I thought I was something hitting the gas tank skid plate, it was.

It was one of the welded on counterbalance weights on the drive shaft. I guess while I was in Barstow I hit a rock that was strong enough to almost rip off that weight welded on there. It is a square snapped weight that has two tac welds holing it on. Instead of laying g flush on the drive shafts surface like normal, I had a angry little curled up sharp edge that just ripped a tear in my skid plate metal.

Since it was a busy holiday weekend I set out for tools to fix the thing. Ended up running into a retired rail road worker who had a work truck so well put together it would make a mobile big rig mechanic jealous.

In 5 minutes I had the counterweight seated flush back on the drive shaft so perfect you would not be able to tell anything ever happened. Just glad it didn't rip through my gas tank side wall. Another quarter of a inch and I would have been fixing a gas tank leak in the desert while on vacation.

Other than that I'm pretty sure I need a alignment and my spindle gussets & coil bucket gussets welded on asap.

Besides that, it was a flawless trip. Didn't loose and

Just finished installing the White Knight quarter inch wheel spacers. Took 10 minutes by myself and I'm happy with it for sure.

The parts arrived around 2 in the afternoon and they were in before sundown. It took me longer to get the old shocks off than out the new ones in! They were original shocks they were beat to shit and corroded to shit. Tired coils and all bushings were shot.

Just swapped my filter out. Going to need the bag "pre-filter" for extra safety. Got the intake for $100 and I love the tone it produced while on the gas around 2800RPM and above. Got the sticker for smog too. Just hit 290,000 today:cool:

Covered nearly 3,000 miles this past month and a half. 7 desert trips, 1 Tahoe trip, plus daily commute. It adds up quick so I don't cheap out on fluids or tires.

Just put another whole day on the dirt with my neighbor who has a supercharged 4runner. A blast. #gopro was on point. Love my hero 3 white edition.

Just received my new wiring kit for my 20" LED light bar I'm adding to the front of my truck. Found a 40" light bar for the roof just need the killer light bar mounts from gunmetal fabrication. Replacing all of my tie rods (inner & outer) and lower ball joints. Got some play in my steering, sucks on the highway. Loose at high speed no bueno!

Planning on getting the Moog problem solver series parts. Had good experience with them in the past, they are tough and look great. Better quality than OEM in my opinion.

Great build! Can't wait to see that light bar installed haha! And I just finished changing out the tie rods on my truck so I'll give you a few tips: Use a pickle fork, don't bother with the pitman arm puller. Get some blue threadlocker for the ITRE's and some anti-seize for the OTRE thread's. Also you are going to need a bigass adjustable wrench for the ITRE's. I had to use a 15" craftsman adjustable and it was barely big enough. The other wrenches that you will need is a 27mm.

Right on!! Thank you for the valuable info! I personally can't wait to get that light bar on myself! Just need to pony up enough cash for 2 new front tires and a alignment and knock it all out in one day. My truck shimmy a little at 74-76 and my inside of my tire is worn all wrong on the front right.

When I put the camburg upper arms on, the tops of the tires went front being pulled in on the top to pushed out on the top. Very touchy on highway, do not like the "threading the needle" feeling when at speed.
