Hi, I've been fishing these threads hard trying to figure out what is wrong with our 3rd Gen v6. I will start with the problem then go on to what has been done.
Problem: Once the engine is somewhat warm the idle gets thready. Will stall in reverse or drive if the rpms are too low. After we start it back up the idle will be thready and jump in drive unless you put a bit of gas to it to get the rpm up.
What has been done: The 4runner sat for a year and when I started it we noticed the seals were shot and needed to be replaced. I had them replace all seals including on the transmission, new fuel rails, injectors, plugs and coils. We also had them change the breaks. Passed inspection at 97 percent. After a few days it started having the idle issues and would die at stop lights unless it was in nuetral. So, I cleaned the throttle body which was horrendous and replaced the IAC. No fix, but it ran better. Then I cleaned the MAF, replaced the temp sensor because it was going bad, replaced the O2 upstream because it was on its way out but still no fix. We have had vacuum tested and no problems there. Found out the fuel pump was having issues so I changed that, the relay and the filter. 4runner was running very good and much power but still the stall problems. We have had it at Yost Mechanics twice, and even had the transmission checked to make sure it wasn't the Torque Converter. Transmission is strong like ox.
I'm lost...it really seems to be an electrical problem at this point, because turning on headlights, turn signals and so forth will seem to trigger it as well.
I had Autozone test the battery, starter and Alternator. The Alternator has a diode that is bad...could this be the issue?
Any help would be amazing because I am stumped and stressed and my girlfriend wants to rip her hair out.
Thanks in advance
