98 SR5 stutter/jerking on interstate; dies when I pull over

So I'm on a few hour trip today on hilly interstate. I'm not towing anything, but I do have a hitch mounted bike rack with two bikes on it. After about 2 hours driving today, the 4runner started jerking and bucking wildly. I pulled over and as soon as I stopped, it died. I let it rest for a few minutes, started it back up (It didn't want to start, but eventually did) and drove another 10 minutes. Repeat previous scenario. This time though the gas light was on (Even though I have half a tank). Pull over, rest, go. Repeat 4 times. Currently sitting at a Mcdonalds trying to research wtf it could be. I've got another 50 miles to go and I need to know what to do once I arrive where I'm going. Aside from the gas light, there are no other electrical issues happening. And the light turned off once I restarted and hasn't turned back on. Once the truck starts jerking, I am 100% UNABLE to accelerate. The truck just stops responding to the accelerator. All I can do is coast to the side.

Any ideas of what to look at once I get to my destination?

Sounds fuel pump related. Some members have said that they smack the tank on the driver side to get it to come back alive. Maybe just enough for you to get to your destination.

I will keep that in mind if I end up fully stranded out here. Thank you! (Although would bad pump cause it to not respond to accelerator?)

I'm about to head back out. Wish me luck, and if anybody has any other ideas of what it might be, please let me know.

If I drop the tank and pull the pump, is there a way to test it before replacing it? I'd hate to replace it and get stranded again on the way back home.

Not really. It seems to prime OK / no abnormal sounds so far as I can tell.

I did fill it up all the way and subsequently drove the rest of the way (About 45 miles) and didn't experience any further issues.

Interesting, when was the fuel filter last replaced?
