99 SR5 any issues I should know?

I just bougt my 99 4runner like 2 months ago and was wandering if there is anything that is known to go bad on them. So far I know timing belts and water pumps, I have always noticed the rear sag but I dont think 99's had that? either way I believe it has a lift/leveling kit because parked beside 4 others and mine sits a good 1.5-2 inch taller front and rear and sits straighter. If anyone has any ideas it would be great appreciated! Thanks

Yea check out the sticky threads at the top of the forum, but if you don't know the history of the truck I'd start with changing out fluids.

The clocks are known to die. That's the only complaint I have about my '99 SR5 after 12 years and 130,000 miles. (I did TB and WP at 120K). Many, if not most '99 4WD's had the tallest springs of any 3G and sit 1-2" taller than other years.

But beware the 'pink milkshake' if you have a slushbox.

Need some more info. Miles is a biggie to knowing what you need. I'd replace the radiator if it's the original and that will avoid the pink milkshake issue.

Use the buyer's guide as your initial checklist. If everything checks out, then you are good, for now. Next, consider prevention steps. Installing an external tranny cooler and/or replacing the radiator entirely is a good one to start with. The clock dying is not going to leave you on the side of the road. A toasted transmission will. Sounds like you are already on board for the timing belt/water pump.
