99 SR5 with 115,000 Good Idea?

Hey yall I have a question and any responses would be appriciated. I'm currently looking into buying a 99 SR5 4wd with 115,000 miles. Just want to know if this will be a dependable vehicle. Carfax shows only 2 owners, but since it's a wholesale vehicle (i work for a wholesaler) I have no knowledge of maintenence history. Everything looks good under the hood, rides fine with a bit of front wheel brake squealing. Timing belt change will prob. have to be done since I cant find out if its been changed. I can prob get this truck for 8 grand and I LOVE 4runners. But this will be my daily driver and I'll need 4to5 years/200,000 mi out of it. This truck will have to last since my baby daughter is due in 2 months. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated thanx!

115k is nothing on Toyota's. Although, it does depend on the previous maintenance history. Take it to a mechanic and get it checked out.

What trim level is it? Does it have a rear locker? Is it V6? If it's in good condition, $8k is not a bad price at all. If it has a highlander package (hood scoop, color matched bumpers), then that's a great price.

Not sure of the trim level no hood scoop so I thought that designated it as a SR5 (Im a noob) and yes its a v6 3.4L wont be doing much off roading at all maybe twice a year, and no real treacherous terrain by any means. Not sure on the rear locker either. How may that affect my decision? thanx!

Sounds like I got a deal on my 99 w/ 67k on it. I got it for around 9k.

Its pretty clean and I like it except for the gas mileage

(would like it higher but thats life)

If you aren't doing any real trails then the diff lock is a moot point.

I have 130k on mine and (knock on wood) everything is fine on mine and it's wheeled about 10-15 times a year. I also go 9k between oil changes (syn of course) and it burns a negligible amount in that time.

used vehicles dependability are always determined by the previous owner/owners. You can buy a '99 w/60k on it and if the previous owner ragged on it then one w/115k with a good owner might last longer. I wanna talk to the owner if I'm gonna buy a used vehicle from them. My 2 cents.

Yea checked today and no rear lock, but like I said I wont be doing any real tough trails, and it sounds like he got a great deal on his 99 9grand/67,000 but that was also 2wheel drive and a 4 cylinder. But I drove it today and ran great, didnt get a chance to check out the 4wd, but I think im gonna get it. Ill let you guys know and try n get some pics up, sure Ill have more questions THANX

I hoped that I got a good deal. I wanted a V6 w/ 4wd but I cant afford gas and ins. Maybe my next 4runner??

But my little 4cyln seems to have alot of get up and go still left. I am getting ready to take it to Yosemite in the next week from the LA area.

The prior owner was an Aerospace mechanic that had all (i think) the maint records (did most all himself and had receipts to prove that work had been done).He was very protective and PROUD of his 4runner and didn't want to sell BUT his daughter thought that it was best because he had cataracts or glaucoma.

He seemed to have not that many miles on it for the year it had 67k on it when I got it.
( 1999 - 2007 =8yrs, 8*12k= 96k miles should be on it average)

I think that I did good especially in the Southern California area, most 4Runners are alot higher mileage (80 to 100k and UP!!)

If you live anywhere there is a real snow season people ask rediculous prices for 4Runnersbut rarely get them but Runners are a bit more around here.

I could still get $9k for mine with some patience but I also have a few nice extras that would come with it and it's very mechanically sound and I have receipts for everything. Plus it being a sport model also helps;diff lock too.

Get the truck looked over by a mechanic you trust and maybe even have a compression test done which if you find something amiss you'll look at it as a wise investment and if it's all good then you can feel good about making your purchase.

Also if the motor is dirty get it cleaned to be able to see any trouble spots and look underneath real well.

I just bought my '99 Limited in February w/126k on the odometer and didn't even think twice about it! I saw half-a-dozen other similar vehicles for sale at that time with 200k+ on the odo!! Just stay on top of your routine maintenance and that Runner will last forever!

I bought one last year (1999 v6 4x4) with 140k miles. The carfax said one owner, no issues and he had receipts from every oil change in the glove compartment. Everything was in working order except the power outlet fuse was blown but I found a spare in the fuse box cover. I paid $9000. So far it's been running great (touch on wood), but I did notice the ride feels a little shaky sometimes, I can see the shifter and steering wheel kind of vibrating. I don't know if that's normal or if it will go away when I get the new tires it needs.

Just set the odometer to "Trip B" and you won't have tot hink about the high miles

higher mileage w/these trucks is not really a problem assuming they've been maintained properly (which doesn't really require much). I have almost 170k on mine and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country tomorrow. they're just rock solid vehicles
