A/C light is on when I have the heat on

I've had my 96 5 speed 3.4 V6 4runner for about 2 months now and am still discovering a few things. The latest thing I've noticed is that ever once and awhile when I turn the heat on the A/C button light will come on. I push the button to see if that will turn it off but it doesn't. I can't tell if the condensor is turning on, and again, the light doesn't come on all the time just about 1/2 the time when I turn heat on. So whats up with that??

You must have it set to Defrost too. When the controls are set to Defrost, the A/C will come on to remove humidity from the car.

^^ this, with no more explanation needed other than it cycles the compressor to do that.
