A few newbie questions

My friend of mine gave me his 92 4runner with v6 5speed 4WD.

Instead of turning my wife's FJ into a weekend off-roader i would much rather put a lift on this thing and throw some tires so I can play around in the hills of VA.

I know you can spend some serious money however what do you think i would need for a decent weekend off road-er? and what type of lift would you get and tire size?

For the FJ it's got OME 3" suspension, all pro winch bumper with warn9500 and some 33's. that is pretty capable but that's alot more money i want to spend on this beater and my wife hates it when i come back with trail rash

Not at all.

You could start as basic and inexpensive as ball joint spacers in the front and lift shackles in the rear. That'll get you 1.5-2" of lift and fit some 32's.

Add a locker in the rear and you can do quite a bit.

I'm partial to the ARB airlocker. You can turn it on or off as needed, but they are expensive.

The full Detroit is tried and true.

The Aussie locker also has a large following (especially for the front) and is reasonably priced.

And there is the Toyota e-locker, which is selectable like the ARB.

And there are plenty of others.
