A suggestion for Pro owners

To all current and potential Pro owners, please get over yourselves. A TRD Pro 4runner is just a 4runner like any other. It is a Trail with some shocks and springs and appearance mods added. Please stop posting articles about the Pro that describe them as giant killers in the off-road world. They aren’t. If you really want to post the articles do it in the Pro thread.

We have some around here who like to poke Pro owners with a stick just to get a reaction. Don’t let them get to you. Just ignore it and move along. Don’t feed the trolls. I tried to argue with them and it never got me anywhere. Guys like [MENTION=6163]phillyd2[/MENTION] [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] and [MENTION=51186]philsey[/MENTION] helped me understand that the nonsense wasn’t directed at me personally. I finally decided to listen to guys like them and have fun with it. It is now much more entertaining around here for me now.

Many of the guys on the forum are extremely knowledgeable and are willing to help if you don’t act like a dbag. When asking a question you don’t have to include the fact that you have a Pro in the title unless it is relevant, and most times it is not. If you ask your question just like anyone else would on the forum you will be surprised at the positive reaction you will get.

I love my Pro and it fits what I want to do nicely. I have no regrets about my purchase. I drive it every day and it never fails to put a smile on my face.

I find the attitude toward pro owners on this forum very strange, and I don't own a Pro. I own a 2014 Trail.

It's like people with Iphones, they'll never call it just a phone. It's always "Where did I put my IPhone?" "Let me call him on my IPhone", etc.

When people get something they feel is special they like to make it known.

I think the TRD Pro is a sweet looking ride, but yes, people on here make note of it many times when it makes no difference to the question asked.

I don't see anything wrong with having a TRD Pro specific thread, just like there are for other trim levels, but there is a lot of ass and trash in that thread for sure. The attitude towards pro owners stems from threads like "What is the best tire polish for my 2015 TRD PROOOO?:guitar3::guitar3::guitar3::guitar3:" I have never seen anyone start a thread like that specific to a Trail or SR5... that's why some of the hate is justified. People then get overly defensive and can't take a joke, and it's hilarious. That's pretty much the main draw to this forum for me now, the TRD Pro shit shows. I can't get enough.:toilet:

Maybe just stating proper forum etiquette would help. This should be a popup that is forced to be read and acknowledged by all new members when they register.

1. Do a search and see if you question has been answered 1000x before.

2. Create a signature of what model year and modifications you have. This way it will be easy for readers of all your posts to quickly reference what you have.

3. Post your question (no need to specify what model/year... in the title). They are all the same basic rolling pig.

This board originally started out as a place for 4Runner owners who are avid off-roaders. Guys who put together their own vehicles, custom fabricated parts and used the 4Runner to the fullest of its capabilities. Some guys never went off the pavement but that was the minority. In comes the TRD PRO crowd (only new 4Runner owners, not guys who had a 2nd, 3rd or 4th Gen) and the shift from off-road enthusiasts to only caring about looks started to happen. The same questions asked over and over again, the same complaints, the same pictures of vehicles that look identical to one another etc... The true contention is between the 4Runner purists and the fly by night 4Runner owners who pop up and then disappear. That's the truth. Yeah sure, it sounds ridiculous to most but to the guys who have had several generations and use the 4Runner to the best of its abilities cannot stand the guys who make their PRO look like a Christmas tree with lights, ICON everything, racks, rotapax etc... I believe that it's your money so you're entitled to do as you wish but I also cant stand the repetitive bullish*t posted every day and I wish the mods would start deleting new threads that have been discussed ad nauseum. People love their vehicles, I'd be lying my as* off if I said I could care less about looks. It just appears that most PRO owners (new Toyota owners) came out of the woodwork because now theres a 4Runner that meets their beauty expectations. Once again, its just a battle between purists and non-purists and that is never going to die. I'd like to see some new PRO owners go over to Pirate 4x4 and see what happens. They think this place is rude, lol. Those guys will sh*t on your seats, pop your tires and pour summers eve in your gas tank.

I never said "he" was jealous--I said all the haters on here appear to be jealous. The fact that he is a Pro owner make his post even more strange IMO. Maybe he is trying to be popular with the Pro haters. LOL.

I get exactly what Bevo is saying and completely agree.

The reason I got a 4Runner with the TRD Pro package is that a) I liked the look as it reminds me of my LC, and b) I wanted the suspension that came with it as I'm not sure if I'll be modifying or not. I went into it knowing full well the differences between it, the Trail, and the SR5.

My daily driver for 19 years has been a '89 FJ62 with 4" lift, 285/75/16 tires, snorkel, ARB air locker, ARB bull bar w/winch and side bars, and Kaymar rear bumper/tire carrier. Off road use was mild rock crawling (I'm on the east coast) and aggressive trails. I'm pretty sure it's able to go many places my 4Runner cannot, so I'm under no impression that a 1.5" "lift" and a different grill account for a giant killer insomuch as one of Don Quixote's windmills did.

I also prefer saying I have a 4Runner rather than a TRD Pro.

My take:
A forum is a place for affirmation and justification, in addition to a place where like minded individuals can hang out and talk about common interests. Case in point:

Someone can post a question and I can give the correct answer in the next post. It's not right though unless several people post the same thing throughout the thread!

In comes the TRDPRO crowd. They were told (and sold) their truck was extra special. They come here looking for affirmation that their truck is special. When they don't get it they get hurt feelings.

It's the same for any topic. The tough one is when I try to dispel a widely held myth like oil change frequency. I know quite a bit about that topic yet 80% of the world thinks they do too because of history. Those are the tough topics. Back to the TRD PRO guys.

I did a thread to highlight model differences specifically to help new people and to show TRD Pro guys exactly what they had. In truth the LE model is the unique 4Runner out of all the models but do you see a "LE" specific thread? No? Why? It's the mentality and the preconceived notions of most of the owners. The truth hurts.

What made this place so different from the usual child forum drama was that ALL were always welcome and ALL were treated as equals no matter their trim level or how they used the truck.

1E has no mods and his off roading is mostly dirt roads. While Antman mods everything possible at least once until recently he never went off road (Just my luck the first time he did was driving my truck).

We always had very type of owner and never ever had an issue. Never!

When we had events all were welcome and we would see bone stock to heavy mod trucks. And ALL respected each other.

And we ALL also helped each other. Not only online but also in person. Honestly you could have have asked for a more friendly tighter community. Really.

The same questions have been asked and answered for years without drama and rancor. I just wish I has a dollar for every time Harper explained wheel alignment and the fender mod to yet another new member.

All of us, including me, remember being new the the 5th Gen and all of us will never forget the kindness shown by others - no matter how stupid the question or how many times it's been asked before. I speak from personal experience here.

I first started noticing the change with the massive Pro thread which was talking about things that also pertain to every other trim level. Weird I thought but did not think too much about it. Then I noticed a thread proposing a Pro ONLY meet and I was thinking WTF?

Since then it has gotten much worse and I for one am very sad to see it. Very sad to see a once nice oasis from the usual forum crap being turned into the exact same BS we see everywhere else.

And yes, I put the blame squarely on some of the new members who have brought with them their childish entitled super sensitive attitudes. Not all for sure. Not even most, I bet. But enough that I don't visit as often as I use to. And what's worse, I don't answer questions like I use to.

The place is much less as a result. And shame on those who did it.
