A Word of Advice for Potential Savage Slider Buyers

Just thought I'd give a quick shout out that I'm not sure whether or not it's been covered yet, but I have a small tidbit of information that I'm unfortunately stuck with, yet I figured I'd let people here know.

First off, Savage makes a great product. I ordered mine, HD-SKO (sliders with the rear kick-out), fully assembled to cut down on install costs and time. At first glance, they look like they'll mount up with the entire scab plate on the frame. (I had to leave about 1/4" dropped off the bottom of the frame rail for them to be installed).

...

And here's the [silly] reason why: I drive a Limited 4Runner.

Limiteds come with special cladding (as many know) and the way it hangs off the body (at the ends of the flares that originally matched up with the OEM running boards) keeps the sliders from completely being flush with the rocker panels. This didn't concern me too much as I don't plan on using the sliders ALL the time, just when I find myself a bit over my head), and did a stress test on them, and they will still hold the weight of the truck even with a small amount of the scab plate hanging off the frame. I had the guys who welded up my sliders run a bead along the inside edge of the frame rail and the back of the scab plate for that missing bead that would have been along the front. In the back doors, the door cladding won't clear the slider unless you either cut the flare or drop the slider a bit; and same goes for the front, a tiny piece of the Limited cladding keeps the front of the slider from fitting flush as well, so I had no choice but to drop the entire slider 1/4".

So this is just a little heads up to anyone with a Limited who opts for Savage Sliders. Again, they are great looking and have held up to multiple stress tests even mounted "not fully" on the frame. But they won't clear Limited cladding without cutting, something that I didn't really wanna risk delving into. The small amount of slider that hangs down isn't the lowest part of the truck, so I'm not that concerned.

That's why I put the body lift on first - to get the sliders up higher. Super cheap & easy (considering I had all the material & means to make my own).

...and I might add, STUBBS makes the HD-SKO and Richard was very meticulous in asking which flares, which flaps, etc. to be sure he built them to fit with no compromises.

Here's mine clamped up just prior to welding a couple weekends ago.
There's 3/8" clearance between the body pinch weld and the sliders.
