A760F transmition behind 3.4?

Anyone seen any builds like this? Putting the 6speed automatic tundra transmission in a third gen. Or even the a750f 5speed automatic.?
All I'm finding is "oh not enough power to do it" power isn't going to be a problem. Lol.
Main things I want to know. Are the new transmissions run by a seperate ecu than the engine like our 4runners? And is the bellhousing bolt pattern the same?

I would count on a pile of road blocks. Don't forget to check for input and output shaft differences, also overall length. You could end up having to get custom shafts made too. Anything late model will almost certainly be controlled by an ECU.

Do we have a separate ECU for our transmission? I thought the engine and transmission were controlled by the same computer?

That's what I thought.

So to me, that rules out being able to swap in the newer trans the OP was suggesting, because there would be no way to control it.
Not entirely ruled out, it just adds difficulty. My ecu is set to run an auto trans, that is no longer there... so....

Short guess, and I repeat guess, op would need to run both ecus side by side, with alot of custom wiring and *tricking* the ecus into thinking different things.

Or completely custom ecu...or reprogramming one of them possibly? Idk but hes way over my head now. Lol

If I remember reading right in singtoe's v8 swap the transmission is in a way seperate from the engine...?
And honestly you guys are sort of over thinking it... I'm sure that if you can make the stock automatic transmissions paddle shift manuals... You can work with the newer transmission, there's always a way to do something it's how far you're willing to go to make it happen. I'm not asking how hard it would be I'm asking how to do it.

Singtoe used a transmission out of a 02? Sequoia.

The difference between the two is the bell housing. That's it. They're same drive ratios and everything. The bell housing bolts up to either a 4Runner or Sequoia trans.

My suggestion to you, would be to compare the two transmissions you're wanting to add.

The problem here is that you're going from a 4speed with overdrive, to a 6 speed transmission. You'd have to reflash the computer IOT make it work right, if it even plugged up.

Other wise, you're going to be sitting in 5th gear, and the trans won't know it can shift again.

The 5.7L is different than the 4.7L. Do some more rersearch, and let us know what you come up with.

Thanks for the support. Ill see what I can come up with.
So far it seems the major differences is that the 5.7 trans has torque converter lockup in 4th and 5th gear also. Slight gear ratio differences.
I have a while to research before actually doing this. Hoping another 50xxx miles before I manage to fry this one.
I'm thinking that doing an auto manual mod similar to... Clownmeat..? But not the paddles more of the bump shift. That will lead to a different set of challenges. It would be a fun project :) and that's what I'm going for.

And thanks for your service. Ever been deployed?

Sorry I couldn't be more help. I know about the 3.4 and 4.7 because I've been wanting to do the swap for a while, and Sing lives about 2 hrs from me. Stop in and see him just about every time I'm headed home for the weekend.

And thank you. I have been deployed. Twice to Afghanaland.

Sorry if I sounded like I was hating on you. Cuz I'm not. I'd love to see this happen. I was just trying to help you see that it will not be an easy thing at all.

Most of these random questions are by noobs that haven't done any research at all. Which you obviously are not

Most of the questions have been answered but here is my two cents.

If you are able to get a 6 speed or a 5 speed tranny, go ahead and get the engine that is attached to it and do the swap.

But the real question is why would you want more gears? The cheaper solution would be to regear the diffs

Any updates on this? Dont mean to grave dig here but was also looking into the option. Now that the 2016 taco has a 6speed auto mated with a GR block some new and simpler possibilities? May be pulling the trigger on an 08' and would love to have the 2nd O/D gear for long drives

You could end up having to get custom shafts made too.
