Toyo open country AT 2's have a LT in C rate in that size as well, what I'm leaning too!! I don't offload any, dura's may be a lite much for me

275/65R18 Load C? interesting.....I'm going to check that out. I think the Dura's and the TG's are both load E

oh yeah, looks like they have a P and an LT same as the nitto TG.

Yep LT275/65/18 in C and E!! Never dealt with much LT's but I believe C would be much better than E For me!! Anyone chime in on C vs E ride quality?

I got the 18's for $200, they all have a little curb rash but nothing major. One wheel had a bent lip, but I found a replacement at a local salvage yard for $100.

Since I've acquired the 88 Pickup, my 4runner is going to be strictly a daily driver, probably only see dirt a couple times a year, and then it's maintained roads. Duratracs are way overkill, but I love everything about them. I really considered the AT2's in the C rating, but in the end I just like the Duratracs way too much to change. I have to admit I love the look, but just as much I love the performance. I had really bad experiences with my previous tires (Hankook DynaPro ATMs) even though there were tons of positive reviews on them, so the if it ain't broke don't fix it mentality made the decision easy. Plus I got a great deal on the tires that brought the cost down a good bit.

Even at 4" lift, I still had minor rubbing with the 285's on the street. I'm hoping to be able to lower the lift some and have less rubbing issues, slightly better mpg, and better power/braking.

Well u sold me on the 275/65 then, originally wanted 285's but mine rarely/never hits off road! Want power and good MPG as well! So I have figured it all out!! Thanks

The Dara's will look good, but I think OC's all in all will be better for me!

What kinda deal? I bet if I went to the local discount tire, told them I want the OC's brought in unless they sale the Dura's same price they may do that!! Discount carries Goodyear, not toyo! Thinking out loud, sorry bought that!

They won't just match the price of the Duratracs to meet the Toyos without an actual quote. I've dealt with DT and DTD quite a bit in trying to get the best prices over the past several years. They will match ANY "out-the-door" quote you get so just do some research (both online and small mom-pop shops) for the best price then get them to match it. I have a local shop here near Huntsville that are always the cheapest price on every single tire i've asked for a quote on and DT is always willing to match...albeit reluctantly given some of the prices. :lmao:

I got the DTs from DTD for $980 and get a $60 rebate. Not bad considering locally they were over $1200. Check treaddepot.com for the Toyos, they have the best prices I've found. The DTs were cheapest at tirecrawler.com, and DTD beat them by $30 when I submitted a price match.

Edit: also consider 265/70/18, I looked at these but they don't make DTs in this size

So after running around town for the last two hours (long story), finally got the tires mounted/balanced and on the rig.





275's on stock wheels with spidertrax, perfect width IMO:

Looks much smaller for some reason. Still looks great though, that will probably be my next tire choice if these BFGs ever wear out.

edit- I guess it's the loss of an extra inch of rubber (in addition to the smaller dia) due to the wheel size.

I agree....decided it's just a combination of a 1" bigger wheel and 1" smaller tire (Goodyear lists the 285 at 33.0 and 275 at 32.1). I do miss the sidewall height, makes me kinda wish I would have looked at the 275/70 but then again, that defeats the purpose of switching wheels/tires.

as far as tires and suspension goes this is my favorite build on this forum. most likely it's the one i will work off of when doing my suspension. good job man.

It looks great, yes big diff in appearance with bigger wheel smaller tire. For me this will be perfect with 2.5/1.5 FJ spring Combo. I will probably plasti dip and Bronze paint the 18's. My plasti dip and paint combo has lasted roughly 25k and 2 years so far.

ARK is that a 275 spare I see peeking out under it?

Thanks! Spare is a 255/75/17 which is the same height as the 275s. I like it because it doesn't hang down as low as a 275 would.

Checking in on your tire decision, still glad you went with the 275/65? You mentioned taking lift back down. Are you just wanting to drop down a little bit? .5 or 1inch?

If I had it to do all over again, I'd do the 275/65 without hesitation. I really haven't noticed any change in gas mileage, but my gas mileage is all over the place anyway so it's hard to say for sure. The 275/65 is the perfect fit for the 4th gen IMO. I am probably going to be leaving the lift as it is for now, I'm happy with the overall setup (just need some longer shocks for the rear, running too much lift for the stock shocks I'm running). I was able to put my mud flaps back on the front which was a big plus for me. I had to trim a good bit, but they fit and don't rub at all. There's no way I could have done this with the 285's as they were rubbing the rear portion of the fender behind where the mud flaps go.

I just returned from a 5 day camping trip in the Ozark Mountains. I've got quite a few pics, once I have time to sort through them I'll get some posted up. No "off road", just some gravel and scenic shots. The second day of the trip I picked up a pretty big nail. It was stuck through the edge of one lug and into another. I was able to pull it out and fortunately it didn't puncture the tire. This made me very glad I had the E rated tires and also the 275/65's (because I had a matching spare if needed).
