ABS Problem?

Ok guys I haul a trailer every once in a while with my 98' T4R, its a car trailer so its about 18-ish feet long and I usually haul on average 2500 lbs of cargo give or take 500 lbs. Anyways sometimes when I'm braking (fairly average breaking) my ABS will kick in and the brakes will let off then rapidly reapply. This happens at low speeds like below 20 mph. Its quite scary when your ABS kicks in and you wont stop. I'd rather just yank my fuse and lock up my brakes but I dont know how that will affect performance. My 4Runner does the same thing even without a trailer (although this occurs under heavier braking. I think my ABS sensors are bad. I had my buddy take his lifted L.C up to 30 then slam on the brakes his L.C practically locked up the brakes you could here his tires sqealing (he has 96'). Also my tires are bald, getting new ones soon. Sorry this was so long this is just really a sketchy deal. My 8 year old brother was in the car today and it kicked in again. I'm really concerned at this point, it's just not safe.

BTW I'm an experienced trailer operator and I drove an 83 Ford F150 for years and never had this problem. THX!

They arent entirely bad. My concern is that ABS is supposed to kick in when the vehicle loses traction but I'm not losing traction, I'm applying a steady brake and it just kicks in. I'm not even close to losing traction.

Its the bad ABS. I've pulled the fuse on mine and have had no issues since. However, I DONT pull a trailer and there is NO ice or snow where I live.

You can add a button to disable the ABS very easily if you have the rear locker. If not, there are still ways to do it, but it will require more work. That way you can flip it on and off at will instead of completely disabling it

BTW, Toyota's ABS was not very good back in the late 90's. Lot's of people have complaints about this kind of thing. Just be sure you understand what you are getting yourself into by disabling ABS (like no steering when you lock it up braking)
