AC has a mind of its own

Recently picked up a 99 4runner limited 4wd, 205K on the clock. The ac unit, which is the screen and has automatic climate control, is wack, the buttons dont always work, and sometimes it wont turn off until i press the off button a hundred times. if i just replace the unit will it work then? or is it the wiring? thanks

I'll be interested in the responses as I have similar issues. I originally thought mine was busted and didn't work but after messing with it extensively all of the functions work. It just doesn't work like I think it should. The climate control, defrosters, fan controls...etc all work but sometimes just not as expected.

For example, if the unit is off and I want to turn on the climate control I have to push the off button and climate control button simultaneously. It will then turn on and I can use the temp adjustment knob to set it where I want. It's a little aggravating but at least it is working while I try to figure out what to do about it.

P.S. - I've tried the factory reset instructions, litteraly 50 times, and they made absolutely no difference.
