AC recharge?

Hey friends. It hit 97 in the bay area yesterday and the AC light went off and the AC stopped working whilst cruising the 280. Looked at the sight glass and looks empty or completely full of invisible fluid. No bubbles or anything at 1500 RPM or at initial startup. Do I just need to refill it? The AC button light no longer works. Is that an indicator of something or did the bulb die at the same time as the AC? Thanks!! (1998 SR5 w/195,000)

hope this isn't redundant, but what other trouble-shooting did you do? Fuses look good? Blower working? Compressor turning?
