My legal matters is now taken care of. Here's a short video of my truck in its entirety for those who are curious wondering what happened.

As for my new vehicle ; I am still on the hunt for a new whip but I was wondering if I could get everyone's input on this vehicle that I found...

The owner of this '03 limited 4Runner which has 105k miles on it is requesting $14,000 cash. Basic summary of the 4Runner's description


-Black Exterior
-Grey leather interior
-4x4 with power
-Heated & powered front seats
-Lifted with Daystar comofrt ride & leveling lift kit.
-Bilstein 4100 series shocks & struts
-Cooper discovery set 285/70/17 tires
-TRD Air Filter
-Weather Tech floor mats
-Spark plugs
-Cabin filter
-Brakes (according to the owner, the last three including brakes were installed less a year ago.

*The owner states that all of 'these parts and tires all by themselves alone cost $2,000 not including installation costs.

- Oil, transmission, transfer case & 'diffs' (?) are equipped with "Amsoil"


That is all the information he provided on the listing. However, he did say that, 'do not give me lowball BS offers on the listing so he must be willing to negotiate the price down (I know I would, especially when I'm spending my own $ for my half of the car's value). Do you think he's asking for too much? Should I make another offer? Let me know


Edit: I have requested pictures of the 2003 4Runner. I have seen them & the overall condition of the 4Runner is in near perfect condition with zero dents or scratches

Used stuff is used stuff. I hate how people don't get that. Constituent parts are always worth less once used.

14k seems too high. Did he 4x4? I like to 4x4, but I don't like buying a vehicle from someone who did. Offroading stresses components, which you want to do, not have done for you.

Not saying a bad ride. Just look for ways to pull the price down. I doubt very seriously he will get 14k. My 2005 V8 with less miles was 2k cheaper. So..... you do the math.

A daystar lift costs a whopping 200 bucks. The tires are probably the biggest price adder. A good set of tires can easily run 900-1000 dollars. How much tread is left? Used tires are used....

Definitely. I think he threw out a ballpark figure to keep away from those who doesn't have a budget of $14,000 or even $10,000 for that matter. According to the listing he made, he did off road by driving onto the beaches down in NC & blue ridge mountains in VA. However, when I talked to him-he seemed like a child who thought he was the smartest guy out there. I asked him if he had someone else I could talk to because I wasn't comfortable talking to a teenager whose car is probably under their parents' name. He told me he would have his father call me & that he was 'warning me' not to try scam him 'though I told him everything would be in cash. I hate dealing with stupid kids.

I'll talk to the father later on this evening and let him know what's up...I'll explain how I talked to fellow 4Runner owners of that particular models and explain to him how $14,000 for that particular vehicle is not going to happen. I'm pretty sure I can get the offer reduced to around $8,000-$10,000 depending on the father's interests. They're in a bind to get rid of the vehicle quick, so that's an advantage for me if they're having issues finding a buyer that would drop 14 large on their vehicle.
 
Seriously? That's considered "totalled"? Still plenty of use there. What a shame, this one's still rolling around in Wisconsin after I sold it a few years ago.

V6 or V8? Service Records? Grab the vin and go to toyota, and register an account. Add the VIN as your vehcile, and you can see the service records.

14k is too much. How much you pay is up to you. Fair, well, fair is what the market will support; and I doubt seriously it will support 14k. :)

10k. 9k? Now we talking. You pay less in private party than dealer. I know my vehicle would have been 10.5, maybe 11k private party. V8, less miles. Excellent condition. Sport Edition. Sunroof, all the extra.

So. In all honesty, a 2003; 10k Max. Not sure where the 14k is coming from? Seems excessive.

In the end. Ask you ACTUALLY owns the car and talk to them. Like you said, don't waste your time with a teenager being a punk.

My insurance considered it totaled. However...I got an estimate on how much it would cost to repair the vehicle and it was around $4,000 in parts excluding labor costs (approx. $3,550). I don't know the numbers exactly because it was a while ago, but the costs to repair the 4Runner sounds about right.

@Dc_Runner - Thank you. I just left an email requesting more detailed information as well as the VIN number.


@Independent - I bet. Hopefully I'll get an email back from this poster and we will see how things goes from there. If I can get it for 8 large, then that is great. My dad was going to foot the bill buying a new car but I wanted to help with the costs so we will split it in half.

Get a vehicle history report of this car - run its VIN through CarFax. The Kelley blue book will also give you some idea of the value of this car. You might want to check out auto car insurance quotes for this car before you buy it – you don’t want to be stuck with insurance you can’t afford.
 
$14K is *WAY* the heck too high for that. As I was looking for my 4Runner, I came across a private party 4th Gen 4Runner, 103K, Limited, V8, 4WD. Same year. Garage kept, thing never saw the trail at all (or any dirt roads for that matter). All records kept, all maintenance done.

He was asking $12,500 OBO for it.

I get his point about the parts installed and all that, but owners HAVE to know that (and I hate to say this, but it IS true if you're not an off-road guy) people who purchase a vehicle modified like that are at the same time

- happy to have a vehicle like that and
- worried that the aftermarket (as in not Toyota OEM) mods may cause problems down the road.

Therefore, the cost of the mods is often nullified in the buyers' minds by the potential cost of future repairs.
