adding 4x4 to 2x4

I know Iknow I should have gotten the 4x4. but at the time I was abducted by aliens, yeah, thats it Aliens. Anyway, now that I have gotten my head out of my 4th point of contact. I want to explore the idea of adding 4x4 to my '05. has anyone done it? If so, what am I looking at ? cost. time. etc..:bash:

If I were you! I'll trade it in for a 4x4.
You save your self a lot of money and headache..

Front Axles
Front Diff
Front Driveshaft
Center Diff
ADD swap for the front wheels
4wd ECU
4wd ECU wiring harness
4wd Dial Switch
ECU (integrate w/ 4wd ECU)

If subframe is different you'll need support cross members relocated or rebuilt.

That's most of it unless I'm forgetting some of the other items.

I've seen some 2wd to 4wd conversions on older generation 4runners so it can be done. Whether or not it's worth the time and energy is up to the owner and the person assisting with the installation.

Personaly, if your going to add parts to make it a 4wd, might as well do it the right way. Your going to spend a good chunk of money on the stock parts, you can save money and go with a solid axle swap conversion. Make it a real off road machine, and something unique.

I have made that same mistake on my Tundra. I have researched costs and depending on the condition of your truck you may find someone to trade you straight across!
