Update...it is now officially my conceal carry! It took me a while to get used to the kick of the small gun along with the heavier trigger pull (9 lbs). (I have been used to the DA/SA trigger.) Anyway, i am really comfortable with it now...and grouping is much improved...very close to what i could do with my Sig P239.
I really like the DA-only trigger, because it is safe (for novice like me, more so than a Glock trigger) and my finger only has to remember one trigger pull instead of two (like in a DA/SA setup). No external safety to bog you down in a crisis.

Man, this thing shoots like a dream!! Very accurate & smooth for such a small gun. Sig updated my trigger group on the last visit to Sig...and it is amazing now! No malfunction in over 450 rounds. I filed down the backstrap because Sig made it too rough (for grip purposes) and my hand is much happier now. I have the 8-rd magazine (single stack)...so, the grip is perfect and now holds as much ammo as my old conceal carry (P239).

One more thing...the backstrap of the P290 is very rough...big pebble sandpaper like! The finish is good for grip, but after about 100 rounds, it makes a nice deep imprint into your palm...with much discomfort. The frontstrap is of the same sandpaper finish (see first pic below), but this does not bother me much. So, with a filing rod, i filed down the backstrap (see 2nd pic below)...and now, i shoot with comfort! No need for any grip tape...grip is still good, but no more nasty imprint in my palm!

Well, unfortunately, i have to send my gun back to Sig for the 3rd time!
Last week, I shot 80 rounds of Winchester Bonded PDX1 (124 gr +P). This gun was cleaned & oiled thoroughly before the shooting session. Two malfunctions happened:
1. While shooting on one occasion, when I pulled the trigger, the hammer did not strike. It felt like the trigger bar malfunctioned (very much like the 1st time I sent it in). I release the mag and rack the slide and reloaded it. Everything was then OK.
2. On another occasion, on the last shot, the trigger got stuck all the way to the backside (literally! It did not release forward after I release my finger) with the slide lock to the rear. When I press the slide release handle, slide came forward and so did the trigger.
Well, i am disappointed...this is not the Sig that i knew. So, i am back to my Sig P239 which has been 100% reliable since day one. I will wait to see what Sig does with my P290...it is very accurate, but damn it, it is simply not reliable!

BTW it sounds like your SIG "jammed" not "misfired"; a misfire is a failure of the cartridge after being struck by the pin. It has been years since I did weapons training in the Navy so I had to consult the Google for confidence. The result is the information below.

Nope, misfire is accurate for one of my issues with my gun...but yes, the initial issue was a defective trigger bar...so, what seemed like a misfire was not because, like you said, the bullet was never struck.

UPDATE: after 3 trips back to Sig, my gun still has misfires. Just after the most recent visit, Sig installed 2nd strike capability. Unfortunately, when i took my gun to the range, i had to use this BACKUP system over 8 times in 280 rounds! See picture below. It shows 3 misfires of the 8-10 that i had. 1 in the pic is the Winchester PDX1 124 gr +P; the other 2 is Walmart Winchester.
So, i called up Sig and ask to speak to supervisor of customer service. Calmly, i explained my problem that after 3 visits to Sig factory, my gun is still defective...and i was NOT interested in sending it back just for them to send it right back to me. The supervisor was very nice and understanding. He also did not think that a 4th trip to gunsmith will do any good. So, he offered me an EXCHANGE for anything at Sig. Basically, for the MSRP of my P290, he was willing to give me anything in exchange up to that price...and if it was a little over, he would be OK with it too. Wow, what an opportunity!!
After much thought (2 hours worth of going over Sig website), i chose to get the same gun that i want...P290. I already have a flawless P239...so, i want something SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. I initially thought long and hard about P250 subcompact...and since it was cheaper than my P290, Sig would give me freebies (mags, accessories) to make up the difference. But, then i look at the size of it and it is really not that much different than my P239.
So, in the end, i chose P290 two tone again with laser. Sig will get its custom shop to go thru the gun before mailing it to me. They will also install 2nd strike trigger.
I will update this thread as i get the new gun....

Thai - sorry to hear about your troubles. Aggravating at a minimum. Here's my CCW if you're interested in a change for reliability. I'm 6' and weight about 160, so I'm definitely on the skinny side. This little diddy with an IWB holster disappears on my frame. It took my ex wife weeks to realize I carried it.

Thanks guys for the suggestions...but, i am stuck. If i go trade in my P290 at a local gun shop, then i may get $200-250 max for it...major loss since i got it for $600 initially. (And $600 was cheap too at the time!)
By going this route, i get the full trade-in value (MSRP) for a slightly more expensive gun (two tone with laser) that is brand new for free. And, most folks with the P290 are very happy...so, i gotta go this route....
I guess that the other option is for me to immediately trade in the new incoming P290 laser at the gunstore where the P290 is going to ship to (Gander Mountain). Hopefully, by doing this, my gunstore will give me more bucks since he can literally turn around and sell it as NEW gun.
(In addition, i have no use for the laser module.)
I don't know...will try and keep an open mind...now, please keep in mind my requirements:
1. No Glock trigger. I want to avoid accidental discharges. So, i want DAO or DA/SA triggers.
2. No safety. Thus, no 1911 (SAO) triggers.
3. Smaller than what i carry now...Sig P239, which measures 6.6 length, 5.1 height, and 1.2 width. (P290 specs: 5.5, 3.9, and 0.9 respectively)
4. And no Kahr...had a worst experience with Kahr PM9 than with this Sig!!

Update. I got my P290RS from Sig, as promised. It is the latest model...in fact, the "RS" model is not even up on their website yet! I took it to the range today (1 week after getting it from Sig). FLAWLESS. This is what i expect a Sig to do! Fired 300 rounds of Winchester Walmart brand 115 gr...and 68 rounds of Winchester PDX1 124 gr +P. It went beautifully. It was a pleasure to shoot.
So, this is now my official carry piece. My P239 is back in the gun safe with the Ruger revolver for home defense.
Sig was a pleasure to deal with. The supervisor got my gun sent out with a few extra goodies, such as belt holster (very high quality), mags, and of course the laser module. Unfortunately, i am a "inside-waistbend" conceal type of guy...so, i have no use for the belt holster. Even though my P290RS is NOT a "First Edition", Sig gave me back my "First Edition" plates since i did technically buy one initially. So, my P290RS is a "First Edition" by name, but not by serial number.
But then again, i may have one of the first P290RS models on the planet!! The "RS" stands for re-strike capability. If the ammo misfires, then you can pull the trigger again to fire the ammo. A nice additional safety feature. The trigger pull is fairly long, but i got used to it within 50 rounds.
The laser is pretty cool...never had a gun with it before...always thought that it was more bling than practical. But, hey, it is pretty cool...if anything it acts as a way to minimize recoil and to scare people in the dark!

Minimize recoil? You talking about the added weight out front?
I added this weight on the top rail recently. Didn't do much for recoil though.

With a pint size gun, i need all the help! Yeah, your top rail addition would be slightly overkill for my P290!Good idea, but i like to add things that i will use or practical to me. My brother has an AR (Colt built i believe)...very nice! :ak472:
