Page 54 of the 2011 4Runner warranty and maintenance log, schedule B for 6 cylinder models, states that 5k maintenance requirements are as follows:
1.) check drivers floor mat
2.) inspect and adjust all fluids
3.) rotate tires
4.) visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs
below this there is a section entitled "Additional maintenance items for special operating conditions" which according to the manuals #2 footnote is only to be performed "if you drive primarily under the conditions indicated". Those conditions are "driving on dirt roads or dusty roads" etc etc.. which does not apply to me.
The interesting footnotes is #3 which states "includes operating on rods which road salt has been applied". (funny typo but interesting footnote from Toyota)
I live in a city where road salt is applied for the winter months which is clearly not a condition the roads are "primarily under".
Toyota recommends that 1.) the propeller shaft be lubricated and 2.) the propeller shaft bolt be re-torqued in the event of road salt.
Do you think I have a case to request the two "special" maintenance requirements be performed free of charge? Are these two extra things so simple it wont even be a big request:hatsoff:
