Advice for looking for a job for after graduation?

I graduate in May with a bachelor's in Political Science. I'm not really picky about the jobs I'm willing to apply to but I'd rather go into the business field. I have work experience but not really in anything other than general office work (I know some accounting, some HR stuff, other various stuff). I'm not at my job currently because I'm trying to improve my health (I have lyme disease and just got off IV treatment).

I'm looking at jobs a little bit and have my resume posted but feel like I don't really fit the jobs I'm looking at, so I haven't been applying. I feel like I'm going about this wrong.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do differently? What should I be doing to have a better chance of getting in somewhere (at least an interview)? I was thinking of going back to career development at my school and explaining this to them, but does anyone know if they'll actually help me find something?

I'm just not sure what to do. I hope to be at least improving by time I graduate so I'd like to get a job lined up for afterward, if possible. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Yeah pray.:redbrick: Basically make sure you leave an impression on the person who is interviewing you. They may go through so many blah interviews but they will remember that one person.

Also try to see if any of your parents have any friends with connections. A lot of the jobs today are taken by people with connections. That's how I got my job in a lawyers office. Take an internship if there is an opportunity because it will help with your skills and look good on a resume. You might have to live with the parents for a while, but it will pay off in the end.

Don't not apply because it might not fit. I went to school to be a teacher and now I'm working towards a paralegal degree. Right now isn't a time to be picky and you may love something that you would have passed up. Plus those jobs will only reaffirm what you actually want to do and provide great experience.

Sorry to hear about your health and glad you are improving. It is tough out there, but something will come along.

not really sure where a Poly sci degree fits into this world. Have you thought about getting your MBA? At least when you get out hopefully the job market will be better.

i'm thinking of going to grad school too, i would do it part time since i work, just my .02

My sister got a job at K.P.M.G. Straight out of college with a poly sci degree, as others said just leave a good impression, and make your resume look as good as possible.

Trust me, Poli Sci is not what I wanted and I hate the subject at this point. I was screwed around by my advisor, who knew I wanted business (but was unsure of what field). I wound up with so many electives that if I wanted to still go with business, I'd be so far behind (~2 years) and would have been down a lot of $. I was told by many people that the degree doesn't matter so much since it's undergrad but that it matters that I have one at all.

I have thought about getting an MBA and may still go for it one day but I'm not sure about right away.

Oh they are just one of the big 4 accounting firms, they are located like everywhere. I know there is an office in stamford. I mean it is completley irrelavent to your degree, but i can't imagine what isnt irrelevant.
