Well if you've read the buyer's guide, you're set. Just check the usual stuff you would on any vehicle. I start with air cleaner, oil levels (condition too) and of course the engine coolant (looking for 'pink milkshake'). Of course look under her skirt for rust and accident damage.

That is Sweeeet looking (love the color), Especially for the asking money. If I were you, I'd call and start driving to it. Just drive it - should feel pretty much like new. Luck on negotiations!
 
Those prongs are probably where they removed a grille
Guard and didn't remove those pieces. This pieces are sandwiched where the bumper meets the frame. Seems a little lazy if in fact that is what that is.
 
The 02's had an optional 'brush guard' otherwise known as a "damage multiplier". I'd take the remnants off and Never think of putting one of those one. You're not driving to it yet?!
 
The dents left from that grille guard or whatever it was, is the only thing making me hesitant. Yeah, silly I know.
I know it's a great deal though. Plus I have work in 2 hours and class in the morning!

Probably came from the silly 'guard' (they bend back when they hit anything of substance), wouldn't worry about that. These trucks are Tough as nails.

If I weren't in central texas and lived even in san diego, I'd be on a bus to that truck. Look at the driver's seat, it doesn't have the usual bolster wear. Now look at the steering wheel - not even worn thru like most. Sweet!

Actually, this is true for the T4R I just purchased. I found it up in Roseville CA and bought it for $7,800. 2000 Limited 4X4 with the elocker and 181,000 on the odometer. Clean throughout, drove nice, bought it on the spot, and drove it 500 miles to Temecula. I averaged 22.7 MPG for the trip. I kept it at 65 to 68 MPH (it had a wheel out of balance so it kinda forced to keep it on the light side of the speed limit). Even around town here in Temecula, I'm averaging almost 18 MPG. Your Portland car looks really nice - good luck.
 
A well maintained 4Runner can actually get fairly good gas mileage if the conditions are right. I had 21.4 on an all highway trip where I stayed off the interstate. Speed kills your mileage in these as well, you can't push a brick through the air at 85 mph and expect good gas mileage...
 
Nice find! Low miles and truck appears to be in good condition.
Get carfax to check for odometer fraud and ask seller to send you pics of undercarriage.
