Aftermarket keyless entry fobs

Yeah, I couldn't get any of the aftermarket fobs that come with the "guts" to work. So I bought a used OEM fob from eBay and just swapped the guts of that into the newer shell.

figured i'd give this a shot again. i have a 98 limited with the rs3000 under the drivers seat. there's a toyota oem security light on the panel next to the steering wheel. i tried this all last year, buying a KeylessKing key fob, didn't work, it was pretty shit lol

what should I try this time? I'm 99% certain I need a gray fob, my 4r was manufactured in march 98.

the furthest i got last time was getting the light to light up for 5 seconds but then nothing happened.

what programming instructions should i use?

I own a 1998 SR5, with a build date of 11/97. When I acquired the vehicle there was only one gray oem Toyota key remote for the RS3000 VIP system. That key fob was showing its age so I ordered two gray replacement remotes from RemotesRemotes.com - Replacement Keyless Entry Remote Key Fob Free Programming Instructions. You can order just the plastic remote case w/o any internal components or complete with the internal components. I ordered one with the internal parts and one without. Upon receipt, I simply swapped out the internal parts from the OEM remote into the new part. I used the included instructions that came with the remotes and after 10-15 minutes of trial and error I successfully programmed both of the new remotes. The purchased remotes look and feel the same as the Toyota OEM remote. The included small chains are not as thick as OEM but I swapped the one from the factory remote. The replacements don't have the Toyota logo nor any printed info. Inside the rectangular box on the lower rear, but worked flawlessly. Recently, I had a Viper remote start system installed. When the tech installed the Viper he completely removed the RS3000 control box and all existing wiring, so the gray key remotes no longer function. I now use the Viper remote to start, lock and unlock the doors. The two gray remotes that I purchased plus the OEM remote are now resting in a desk drawer.

so i got one, but i can only get it to unlock. when i try to "lock" it just turns on the alarm light which sets off once i open the door. how do i get it to lock? thanks

edit: also, when i do try to lock it or unlock it, it says one of the doors is open which doesn't seem right.

Old thread, but having same issue with a gray set it said were compatible but when I hold green button nothing happens (thinking the box under my seat is broken or something so wondering if I replace the box ONLY using my original cables if that may work to program it and maybe the transmitter under the seat itself failed

I don’t wanna run wires for a new box, so gonna try to find a 97/98 limited with the same system to unhook mine and put the new one in hooked up to my current cables
