Aftermarket Wheel Question - Opinions Welcome!

Hey guys,

I want to start and say this forum is awesome. So much information and knowledge with a lot of nice people.

OK. My neighbor recently bought a Tacoma TRD Pro and I must say that I love the wheels. What I love about them is that they are gloss black and not matte.

Unfortunately, they are 16" and probably won't fit my Runner.

I found these replicas

Tacoma TRD Pro wheels in the same style and color in 17" and would fit my Runner. The seller has good feedback and mention that the wheels have a warranty. They also have a US number and are shipping from the states and not directly from Asia. I have sent him some questions regarding the product and warranty and now waiting for the reply.

I currently have the OEM 4Runner TRD Pro wheels in matte black and dont like the matte. I honestly love the Tacoma wheels.

I am also in the market for bigger tires now that I have a 3" lift.

QUESTION IS ... how stupid would it be for me to sell my current setup and buy these wheels plus new bigger tires. At the end it evens out so I wouldnt have to shed any cash.

Please let me know what you think ...... :hat:

Thats a question you need to ask yourself, But to help, its not stupid at all. If you like the wheels buy the wheels.

Its all about personal taste. So many people (not saying its you) worry about doing something to their rig because it may not appeal to others. Reality is, its not their rig, its yours.

So personally, I am more of the opinion to get a true aftermarket wheel (like my VTX wheels) that has a better offset but I think the TRD wheels look great and those aren't a bad deal at all.

I say go for it if you like them.

EDIT: Sorry forgot to mention your other option is to take your current wheels and have them powder coated gloss black at a local shop.

Thank you for that reply. The question really is to balance the want/need with practicality.

All I read online is that these eBay replica wheels are shit. So my brain says don't replace OEM with a replica, and my heart says get it while you can lol

If you haven't already - I suggest you check out the first FAQ under the Mods, write up and quick links sticky. It deals with changing tire size and wheels and help you decide if changes made will fit without rubbing and if other things are needed like a BMC.

It may also depend on use. If you plan to do much offroading with a 3" lift, you're opening a whole new area of sliders, skid plates, etc. If it's going to all be for looks and highway driving, then you're fine with just making sure everything will fit.

I'm not concerned about the fitment right now as much as I am concerned about the quality of aftermarket/replica eBay wheels.

I will off-road the car but that will not be more than 4-5 trips a year.

I was hoping someone had a good experience with replica wheels, or are they all SH*T:mad2:

Have you looked into getting your existing wheels refinished by a custom wheel shop? That way you get the look without having to worry about any quality issues.

But those Tacoma wheels are sweeeeeeeeeeet
