Age old dilemma: 5100 vs 6112

I installed 5100's on front and back 4 years ago when the OEM shocks were done. The ride has been great, handling good, and I've been very happy with them. However, last week, the left rear rod unscrewed from the lower mount, and the rod extended to full length. I was on a ranch road and had to go 1/2 mile before coming to a flat spot, and the rod was gouging the inside of the wheel that whole time. I had to buy a generic shock from Napa in the small town near the ranch do I could get back home. 4 Wheel Parts is supposed to have the warranty replacement today. I am not super happy about this, as it appears the rod was not welded to the mount, just screwed in.

Oh wow. Thats unfortunate. I know of shocks giving out and busting but I havent seen that before. That said - 4yrs is a pretty decent amount of time right? Or is this a bigger issue than I am thinking of?
Also - are you planning to swamp the 5100s or do you like them enough to purchase again?
I haven't had any issues with the other 3, so I am going to install the free warranty replacement when it gets here. Bilstein has a lifetime warranty on these shocks. The shocks have less than 20,000 miles on them, since the 2 years of pandemic I only put 8000 miles on the car, and was in a van pool before then that greatly reduced my driving.
The rod was screwed into the lower mount, but wasn't welded. I'll be looking at the other rear shock when I get a chance.
