Members, I just wanted to share something you should think about when contemplating on upgrading suspension.
I have a 2017 4runner and I baby it as much as I can. Since I got it I have been thinking about going all the way with the suspension/springs/lower and upper control arms and a few other related items. Easily pushing past $3K.
You have to assess yourself and habits honestly. I want to keep my 4Runnner for as long as I can. I live in Virginia. I am not rock hopping. I am not off-roading. I am using it as a daily driver. I drive it about 2-3 times a moth and it is is all on paved roads. Most of the time it is kept covered. At most I will tackle fire roads. Most recently I was thinking about iKamper RTT.
I knew I wanted to upgrade the suspension and get rid of that factory nose dive and body roll. I pulled the trigger on the Bilstein 6100 n the front with the lowest lift setting and the 5100 with the medium Bilstein springs in the rear with the lowest lift. Why?
One you start changing the geometry in any way from how Toyota originally built the truck you are going to have to deal with more that the regular maintenance intervals. Changing the angels will have a negative effect on your ball joints and other places. The truck is very capable off-road already. It is built that way. Take it where you want to go and see first how it does so you can assess what you actually need.
I have to prioritize expenses so 4runner upgrades are a nice to have for me. They look really nice but when I see all the lifts. bumpers, winches, snorkels, and other things it makes me wonder. Many of these trucks do have much dirt underneath and are used for commuting.
Sorry for rambling on but please be smart when choosing when and where to spend your money. Thanks for reading this post.
