Air Bag Replaced - Now Stereo Problem - thoughts?

I took my 4R in to have the passenger air bag replaced under the recall, got the truck back and everything 'seemed' to be fine.

Got into it the next morning (40 degrees out) and noticed the stereo display was dim, thought I had my HL's on, but nope, they were off - yet the stereo display was at the dim settings as if they were on. Turning them on/off made no difference. Adjusting the gauge brightness adjusted the brightness of the stereo as it would if the lights were on, but nothing like it should be.

Got in the 4R at noon at work (around 60 degrees, inside the vehicle was very warm). The stereo display was 'back to normal' with no issue. Turning on the lights considerably dimmed the display as it should.

This morning, again cold, the display was dim with the lights off. About halfway to work it suddenly brightened up and responded the way it should.

This was never an issue before they replaced the air bag. I spoke to the dealer the other morning and they are more than willing to dig into it and try to fix whatever the issue is, but they are not 100% sure.

Curious if anyone else has had this issue and what it was, or if I am the 1st here?!

I had a feeling this was going to be a 'unicorn' issue. Combine that with the issue only happening when cold....and it getting warmer here....this might not be solved until next winter when we can duplicate it more reliably.

I'm not sure it's related to the airbag recall work, that sounds similar to how my radio acted before locking up and dying a few months later.

The unit has been perfect for 9 years and 5 months, the day I get it back from the dealership, after they had to take apart the dash to access the airbag, the problem appears. That is not an coincidence. Something got bumped loose or set back wrong that is causing this.

There are no coincidences. As you suspect something is out as result of disassembly and reassembly. Seems to me that your radio harness has being compromised (damaged wire) or simply harness connector is not fully seated.

I had my airbag replaced last month and when I got it back my FM radio was horrible. So much static. I took apart the center dash and low and behold on the back of the head unit the antenna was literally unplugged. Plugged it in and works perfect. I bet in your case they also forgot to plug something in all the way.

The center dash is fairly easy to pull out. There are some youtube videos on how to approach it. I did mine on my own because I've done it before. If you are uncomfortable doing it, yeah just take it back and let them look at it. Hope you get it resolved.
