Alignment Advice

Hey txrick are you going to get the alignment looked out again? As iballengineer pointed out, your current alignment could wear tires when turning. Thanks to iballengineer for pointing that out. The other guy posting his alignment had a perfect alignment and he seemed to have a very similar set up to yours. It may eliminate that's steering wander you were talking about. What do you think iballengineer?

As "the other guy" :) I'll add that when I had mine done, they performed the alignment process twice.

It was so off after install of front components they ran alignment once to get it close, the rolled it on and off the rack and performed it again to dial it in.

I went back after about 750 miles and they put on rack and confirmed it still looked good as well.

Not sure what brand machine they used but it was digital and they indicated it to be about a $40k machine. Was at a Sun Tire location.

I think I'd like to see cross camber tighter, and then if possible cross caster too.

Hmmm...sounds like I need to take it back up there. What terminology do I need to use, so they understand exactly what I/we need?

Well assuming your pull is to the right, tell them you want the LF Camber more positive to within .5 degree of the right. And you want the LF Caster moved to within 1 degree of the right. Theoretically this would be accomplished by moving the front of the control arm pivot toward the OUTSIDE of the vehicle. This may not be on option if they already have done this to the maximum.

If that is the case, I'd try to get the RF Camber more negative, within .5 degree of the left. And LOWER the RF Caster to within 1 degree of the left. This would be accomplished by moving the front of the control arm pivot toward the INSIDE of the vehicle.

There are other moves that could be made, I'm trying to keep it simple here. A good tech will just know what to do. But where you want to go with the settings is basically what I said.

Shock came off the peg!

I'm taking the runner in today to get the alignment redone, but yesterday the passenger side shock came off the lower peg. It looks like I lost all the hardware to the shock.

I dont really believe in coincidences. Do they touch the lower shock mounts when they do an alignment? I noticed the before and after numbers are different on the sheet they gave me.

Rick

No, they don't touch them. At least they shouldn't touch them. Front shock your talking about right? The before and after readings are before adjustment and after adjustment. Did anything break? If not the bolt must have backed out. I would be inclined to check the other side immediately. Maybe a little blue Loctite wouldn't hurt either.

Sorry, its the rear passenger side shock.

I don't think there is anything to adjust on the rear end of 3rd gens as far as an alignment goes, unless I'm more ignorant than I thought?

Edit: I see you made a new thread where someone already said this.

Yeah, I did. Thanks for the response. I was just wondering why the measurements on the back came out different if theres nothing to adjust. Plus, the whole "I just took it to the shop and now its falling apart" thing has me concerned...
