Today my battery light turned on. It shuts off after a bit of travel. Truck mostly starts ok.

Next up my ABS light is now on and to add to it my RPM tactometer is not registering at all - zerod out. Also my speedometer is lagging behind in it's response. Even my windows are now rolling extra slow.

A week ago or so a bulb burnt out in my dash - I can hardly believe it is related but I'm no mechanical or electrical or automotive engineer.

Any ideas where to start?

Fix your alternator! That's what the battery light means. All other problems are due to low voltage from a non-charging battery.

May just be brushes, may need a whole rebuild. Avoid parts store units, they are pretty unreliable.

Alternator as said above. Clean your battery terminals also while your at it.

This. To verify, voltage with engine running should be 13.5-14.5 Volts at the battery. If bad, bench test to rule out connection issues. Also load test your battery. It may have been compromised. I join Charlie in strongly recommending you rebuild if Factory Denso. It will last longer than any aftermarket reman, which generally suck rocks. A puppy dies every time someone gives away a factory Denso as a reman core swap.

You guys are the greatest! A newly reman'd denso alternator and I'm golden. Keep up the good and honest work!

When I got my 97 project it came with a reman CarQuest alt.

Around 10 months after getting it on the road it stopped charging. A hammer tap brought it back to life.

I pulled it apart and pulled the brushes. They were all but gone. Like the reman shop never replaced them. I bought a brush holder assembly from the dealer and good to go for 28 dollars. Plus it was the newer 80a
