Alpine Style Cargo Box on Gobi Rack

Want to start of by saying yes, I have searched threads already and found people doing either a) full sized cargo boxes on their Gobi rack- short and wide or b) mounting alpine style boxes on other style racks (ie Baja Racks with no side bars). But I have not seen anyone with an alpine style box on a Gobi rack.

Reason is I want to use half the Gobi for jerry cans and maxtraxs and the other for light soft items in the lockable box. Full sized box wont allow for this.

Went to the local roof rack store this weekend to see if they had a box on hand to see if it would work and of course they didnt. Only way for me to get a box is to put down a non-refundable portion.

Hoping for some guidance on whether this idea would work or if I should go down the hard case/soft bag route...

Really depends on what you intended usage is. Just trails? Do you ski/snowboard?

Well since a gobi is already a wonder of modern aerodynamics I would tend to stick with soft side storage if your not using it in the winter. You are not as limited in your packing configurations. Boxes themselves take up a great deal of space, they have a finite amount a room, they are expensive. You can pile soft side duffles on top of each other, other stuff, they're cheap.

I have seen a skybox on a gobi here, maybe it was [MENTION=6163]phillyd2[/MENTION]

Yeah thats what Im thinking too. Plus like you said theyre cheap= more $$$ for other things

Sorry I believe it was the 1500 a large size. I do have two of them now as one had damage to the body and Thule replaced the item. I have repaired it and am working on adding long Thule Bars to mount both on the rack.
