Alu-Cab RTT and Shadow Awning

Just adding as a future research option. Trussed up the Rhino rack Awning brackets and right to side of tent with the Shadow-Awn. It is workable for us as is but may move it higher if an issue as we use it.

Can I mount an alu cab exp 3 on a front runner rack on my t4r? The dimensions indicate a bit of over hang and I see some info about extra brackets for support? would I still be able to run those with a shorter rack?

I mounted mine to an Eezi-Awn K9 rack, which I believe is very similar to the Front Runner. The way I did it is a little different, but works very well for me and is a pretty easy on and off solution. And seemingly rock solid, no movement after ten months.

Are you asking because you have the front runner 3/4 rack? Which even if you do, it should work. The Alu cab tent mounts on the resr and the middle. I added an extra set of brackets up front because of a rattle i found annoying. However it was not necessary and if you do have a 3/4 rack there’s nothing to rattle under the front of the tent. Also, since the awning mounts to tent itself and not the rack, you should not have any problem if you decided to get that too.

If i recall correctly, the front runner racks are totally flush on top, ie there’s no discrepancy between crossbars and rack sides, which actually makes it even easier to affix tent.

Just finished making and mounting the risers. They work perfectly. happy to share specs and a few obstacles encountered to watch for if interested. Now there's no interference at all. In fact, the awning deploys exactly above the open lift gate.

Luckily I have the awning off the ride right now so it was easy to take measurement and pictures. Here they are.

The pictures show the length and width of both brackets -- but more importantly the gap between the two sets of holes. I used 3/8" stainless steel. Surely overkill. You could certainly use aluminum to save weight -- but clearly that's not a concern for me at all. But aluminum would be easier to drill through -- I have a drill press so it wasn't an issue for me.

To get a little added height without adding length to the bracket -- you can take apart the awning hinge and switch around the order of the arms.

The whole process was a bit of a pain, but mostly because I was figuring out largely on my own. I'm available to talk on phone if you have any questions.
