Am I crazy for considering these tires?

So a coworker raves about Pep Boys low prices and actually decent service, so I figured I'd see what tires they have. They have Cooper Adventurer tires which look really similar to their Discoverer tires. And with their buy 3 get the 4th free deal, they seem like a steal.

I'm actually leaning toward the cheaper P tires because I want something that will get decent gas mileage but still be more capable offered than my current Dueler H/Ts. I assume the load rating of the LT tires will mean it is 10 ply and heavier and therefore worse on gas. Reviews are very good for either tire.

Let me know your thoughts.

Honestly I don't know much about the tire but you are right IMO that if the price shown is going to be less (buy 3 get one) then it seems like a decent deal. I would go read some reviews on tire rack or something like that but hey for just over $500 you can get some ATs instead of HTs. that tread depth seems slow though

There are a lot of local shops here that sell on Ebay that you can get killer prices so they may be something you want to check out and see if you can find a local shop doing that. I have a friend who does online sales for a tire shop about an hour from me and they sell at cost the ones they cant get rid of. I think last I saw 35 inch mickey's (four) for around $670-$700

I have a few guys Ive known that have used treadwright...lots of differing opinions on them and I never used them but from the few I know that have they were fine, but if youre doing lots of combined driving maybe not.

see if pep boys will throw free alignment or balancing or rotation or something for the life of the tires and go for it
 
If I remember correctly, those tires are different molds of the various Cooper AT tires available through other retailers. That mold is only available through NTB and Pep Boys. I wouldn't be afraid of them. I've used Coopers on several of my trucks now with great results. I know others here have as well.

Oh, and it's been my experience that using E-rated tires on a lighter weight truck (like the 2013 Frontier I had before my 4R) SUCKS! They're super heavy and the sidewalls are like driving around on wood. Unless you need that sidewall and all those extra plies for towing heavy regularly, I would avoid the E-rated tires.

I've had Coopers and they are definitely decent tires. Had the AT/3 though, not the AT. I wonder how it handles in the snow. I mean for ~$600 including installation though (get the 4th free), I think I might pull the trigger on these.
 
Had the at3 as well and absolutely loved them. I would without a doubt put them on my next truck. No chance of snow here so not sure about that
 
They look decent and seem to have good reviews. So long as they come with a warranty for defects, I don't think there's anything to be afraid of.
 
Thanks for everyone's thoughts. I went and looked at them during my lunch break. They look pretty good but the tread depth is definitely more shallow than I was hoping. Still seems like a good tire though.
 
Unless you plan to pull a heavy trailer I would suggest the P tires. For my Falken Wild Peaks, the LT tire is 8 lbs heavier per tire than the P tire. There is more rotating mass which will decrease MPG and increase stopping distance.

Crazy, no but maybe foolish.

Yeah I am definitely NOT going to go with the LT tires. I had just assumed earlier that they were what most people used when getting all terrains.

If you plan to use it off road, LTs are much tougher tires. For use on the street only, they are a huge waste of money, performance, handling, fuel economy, etc.
 
So I went ahead and ordered them. They magically become $6 cheaper each and there is a now a $70 manufacturer rebate. All that plus free shipping and I couldn't resist!
