I wonder what would happen in a case involving someone who does their own oil changes. How do they prove or disprove OCI? I know they have record if you use a dealer for service.

In your 4runner file you keep the receipts for the purchase of the oil and filter and you write on them the date/mileage of the OC. If they request evidence this will cover you.

laws have been passed to keep car manufacturers from voiding your warranty because of using long life synthetic oils. if they tell you otherwise it is bull.

Nope.

They can't void your warranty for upgrades/mods unless it directly affected the warranty claim either.

We can just let Koz do it since he's already been running it in his 4runner. I don't have that much faith in synthetics to run more than 10k miles.

im running the 25K mile stuff in my mr2, and so far so good. im due for an oil filter change in about 3K miles... we are running the amsoil 7500 in our 97 4runner and 02 tacoma. didnt wanna hasle with the filter changes on those (cuz oil filter changes are a pain on them) with the 25k stuff.

I can only go 7K miles, I think its my age and the fact that when I was growing up you changed the oil every 2-3K miles and your car needed the plugs changed every 10K and the points adjusted every 5K miles. I know that 10K with a good synthetic in the 4.7 V8 would not be a problem but for me it would

Again if you want to extend your oil change interval you will need to have the oil analyzed. It will show you if the oil and the filter is capable. The 4Runner's engines are not hard on oil. If you use a high quality synthetic oil and filter there is no reason you can't run the oil filter 10K miles or one year. Don't take anyone's word for it, have the oil analyzed.

Remember that a uoa is a snap shot and if you are going to streatch the oci you might want to repeat the uoa to get a trend, which is the real strength in analysis. Be very careful extending the oci.

Actually I think this is a great idea! They might start to wonder when you ask for the bottles back, but hey it's a free country!

So now, Toyota is shipping all new vehicles filled from the factory with synthetic oil and recommending synthetic for all previous year models! So where do you get a 0w-20 synthetic oil? You guessed it, AMSOIL is one of the few on the market. In fact at least one of the dealerships in my area is bringing AMSOIL into the service center and offering to their customers.

I would be surprised if a Toyota Stealer would use Amsoil (which is the only oil I buy) when Toyota has their own 0w-20 specially formulated for them. Also their 0w-20 is proving to be an excellent oil and cost about half compared to Amsoil!
