2011 SR5 2wd w/ 365k miles. I’ve scoured the threads and can’t quite find this exact issue. Have gone into limp mode twice in last couple weeks and CEL AND TRAC OFF light up. Both times pulled over - restarted and got home. First time i was cruising at about 65mph. I got p0121 and p0393. After the first one I cleaned the TB, MAF sensor, changed the engine filter and serpentine belt (it’s long past time and since the 0393 said crankshaft I figured I’d do it). Everything seemed fine. Drove about 600 miles including hard driving in the smokies. A few days ago It happened again in stop and go traffic on a bit of a hill. This time only p0121. I don’t really know what I’m doing with a multimeter but I tested the TB sensor and got readings of around 2.8 with key on - engine off - no throttle. And 3.8-4.5 with pedal pressed.
Checked all the wiring. Everything looks good. I did have the engine gaskets and spark plugs done about 4500 miles ago at the dealership (the driver side of the engine oil seepage where bank 2 is is actually worse than before the gasket job; passenger side of engine looks great). The clip for the engine bank 2 wire apparently broke and it’s been laying on the block and the outer plastic is melted through. No wires are exposed. I ziptied it to get it off the engine. The 0393 code is a bank 2 code but didn’t show up on the second limp mode episode. Since second occurrence have driven the family to dinner total of about 20 miles. Seems fine but could also talk myself into thinking acceleration is a little bumpy.
I’m just assuming it’s going to happen again. Have an appt to drop off at dealership in a few days but trying to avoid it. Any ideas? I know I could just replace the pedal and TB but that’s going to be around $700 for quality parts and not 100% sure will solve my problem.
