Bought this today from a local bike store. I live about 4 miles away from some awesome bike trails and in my last car I just put the bike inside the cargo area. I learned fast that everything gets covered with mud and dirt.

I thought about a behind the tailgate trailer hitch one but settled on this.

It's a little tricky to load a bike up yourself but not impossible. Also as you would guess there is some more wind noise coming from the roof with the bike up there.

All in all great purchase and only took about 10 minutes to install, if that!

Yeah those things are sweet. I would totally get except I can't get the bike up there. I'm going to get a rack for the tow hitch sometime in the future. Looks cool :bluejump:

Ya it looks good but i wouldnt personally want to have to take the bike up there everytime. Bike is heavy and u cant go into parking garages and wat not with low clearance...

I have a trek 4300.

I don't keep the bike up there. Only for when I am transporting it to and from the trails. So no need to worry about going in parking decks and what not.

I will also put it on top when I go to the lake this summer. There are a lot of trails in georgia that are OHV and then lead to bike trails in the north. Should be fun.

Having it on the roof is nice cause you don't have to worry about dragging the hitch carrier when you are climbing steep stuff. You do have to worry about trees though

I have a white 2008 ironhorse maverick 4.2 btw.

Get the Thule T2 for the hitch. It is BOMBER. It also folds down so you can get into the back with bikes on it. It has a 2 bike add on, but it is BIG with 4 bikes on it. I put 2 on the top (Thule Sidearms) and 2 on the back (T2). Rockin' the Specialized S-Works Enduro.

Problem with that Saris rack is that the bikes hang. They bang around into each other especially on back roads. The Thule T2 actually has them sitting in a tray. Also it will accomodate any type of top tube design since they sit on their own wheels. The draw back is that they are $400. They do come with locks for the bikes and it locks to your hitch. You can stand on it to get to the bikes on top, you can also strap cargo to it if you need to, like firewood or a cooler.

That FSR XC is a nice whip. Fairly lightweight and will take a beatin'!

WOW, what a small world. yea i live in highland point off sixes, its between bridgemill and the bike trail. i know where foxcreek is, ill drive in there and see if i can spot your 4runner. i use to work at the mexican resturant in that kroger plaza.
