Old Grey has been modified to the point where he is no longer a suitable daily driver for my 52 mile commute. Plus, I am tired of all my co-workers calling me a hillbilly just because I drive a lifted truck.
I have spent more time then I care to admit researching, test driving and thinking about a daily driver to replace Old Grey. My requirements included - must have 4wd (in case I need it to pull Old Grey out of a ditch), must have leather, must be large enough to seat 5 comfortably, must serve a few years as a professional work vehicle and lastly, must be wifey approved.
Some of the final contenders were the new Ford F-150 crew cab (pretty sure I could squeeze a tiny house into the back seat of one of those things), the new Tacoma and, of course, the 2016 TEP 4Runner. I ruled out the F-150 because I really don't need a full-size pickup truck, not to mention the only model that comes standard with leather is the Lariat edition, which runs upwards of $50k. I really like the new dash layout in the 2017 Tacoma, but those back seats are so small, as is the bed.
After much deliberation I decided to pull the trigger on a non-KDSS 2016 4Runner Trail Edition Premium in black. The dealer I was working with a few weeks ago did not have any TEP's on the lot at the time, but said that he had one coming to a sister dealership in Jacksonville in a week. I put down a $500 deposit and he gave me the VIN # and everything. Turns out the Jacksonville dealership also pre sold the vehicle, so long story short I got screwed.
About 60 miles away I found a standard TE with KDSS in my choice of color. I chose black because in a few years this rig will also be modded and I love the murdered out look. [MENTION=139709]Quebec[/MENTION] - Your rig is a source of inspiration. I made an offer yesterday and they accepted. As part of the deal I arranged for the dealer to install black leather seats with red stiching (like the 2014 TEP's had). This actually worked out in my favor because I gained KDSS and am getting my choice of interior. I did not really care for the two tone seats that the 2016 TEP's come with anyway. The only thing I lose is the sunroof, which is a feature I can live without.
