I'm not sure about the water resistant part since the shell on the back is easy to open and I wouldn't want to field test that to see what the results would be. Lol. Maybe the Ballistic case I ordered will help out a touch there.

I just looked up to Andriod M and am also intrigued when it will start launching (still in dev mode right now). Some of the features are already integrated into my G4 (tap on/off) but I really like the feature about limiting permissions on apps that M will offer. It seems ridiculous what app devs feel their app should be allowed to do and it's only getting worse.

Why does every app need to be allowed to use my camera, view my contacts, etc? Privacy is a thing of the past with a smart phone. Maybe M will help bring some of that back.

Check Youtube! At least one guy tested it and found to be water resistant/proof x 2 hours!

I am big into privacy and encryption...so, Android M will be important.

I just saw that video. Wow. Not that I plan on field testing that but good to know.

And I hear you on the privacy and encryption.

I've been an Apple guy since my first smartphone, a 3GS, I've had a 4, and now a 5. The 5 I'm not impressed with, primarily with battery life. The aluminum back acts as a heat sink, and we have winter here about half the year, resulting in the phone getting cold and shutting off very easily. Now that the weather has warmed up, I'm still often unable to get through a day without charging, and I'm not what I would consider to be a "heavy user".

I'm now faced with an decision, do I get the iphone 6, or seriously look into some of the Android options? The 6 doesn't really do anything different, outside of lasting the full day (hopefully), and I'm honestly not a fan of the increased size. The size is an issue with the Android offerings as well though, it needs to fit comfortably in my pocket, I don't really game on my phone. I've always hated that I can't get the torque app on my iphone, but I don't really care about all the customization options that come with the Android, I never bothered jailbreaking any of my iphones.

If someone like me was to consider Android options, what phones should I be looking at? I'd like something closer in size to my iphone5, great battery life, not flimsy construction.

Your battery is shot. $75 fix your iPhone problem at Apple Store...if you want to keep it. Li-ion battery wears out. (Thus, i am weary of Li-ion powered hybrids.)

For most iPhone owners, the best Android alternative is Samsung Galaxy phones. Maybe HTC too...but i am not sure how long HTC will remain afloat. LG is a good alternative too esp if you value micro-SD and removable battery.

However, if you're deep into Apple Ecosystem (apps, movies, music), then you are stuck with Apple. Privacy and encryption currently favor Apple...so, it depends on your priorities.

I have done my best to avoid using iTunes, basically only for some of the IOS updates, backup to the cloud. That's another gripe, I have an ipad as well, and my cloud storage is too full to back up my phone, even after dumping all the pics off the devices. I don't see a lot of benefit to having an ipad and iphone really, the ipad will continue to work for everything I currently use it for after the iphone is gone.

Then you are quite open to switching. Go for it.

I had the early iPhone and then took a leap for the galaxy 2 and was very pleased. Then the iPhone 4 and it was meh. HTC one was a very good phone. Current phone is the Note 4 and WOW! Battery life is superb. Camera, camera, camera is excellent. So good that I would text a photo and people would ask me "is that from your dslr"? Everything else is great especially being able to black list phone numbers and texts. Not sure if you can do that now with iPhone.

Yes.

Samsung Note series are really the Samsung to get (if you don't mind size). They are usually better than the S series because they are released later in the year. They are also unique with the pen and unique software that can be practical. Biggest problem with Note (other than size) is that it generally gets software updates slower than S-series because it requires additional tweaking (due to the pen and associated software apps for it) of Android. It is generally 2-4 months behind S-series in software updates.

Biggest negative against Samsung is whether your privacy is preserved. We had Samsung TVs that listens to you behind your back. Backdoor security issues with Samsung software. etc.

Yep I heard about that. I typical root/jailbreak all my devices. Nothing is safe nowadays. We are doomed!:painkiller: lol

I think both Apple and Android are great, and the competition is obviously good for us all.
However, I use Apple computers, tablets and phones for the same reason I drive a Toyota!

50 reasons why androids SUCK!

I've decided to prove how much android phones suck!
#1 They get viruses and malware. How can a phone get a virus? It's a phone not a computer.

#2 reason why android sucks:
Opened ended OS software sucks. They have the same approach as Microsoft allowing any 2cent tech company to use their software, and the same problems as Microsoft too...fragmentation, viruses, and poor manufactured hardware. That's why android and Windows (PC and phones) suck.

#3 reason why android sucks:
It takes so long for apps to hit the google market that it's already old on Apple's market by the time android get it.
If Android is so popular, why are many apps still released for iOS first? | Technology | The Guardian

#4 reason why android sucks:
Batteries die faster than a fish out of water. Guess that's why they have to carry battery replacements...to switch out when one dies. People with androids always have their charger on them cuz their phone has terrible battery life.

#5 reason why android sucks:
Android devices have a short lifespan. 5 years from now I will still be able to use my iPhone. 5 years from now your android phone will be in a landfill.

#6 reason why android sucks:
You can buy something on the google market without signing in. That mean when you let your kid play Angry Birds and they download something on the market, guess what you gotta pay for it?

#7 reason why android sucks:
Because their software is made from an open source program language, anyone can upload a program to Android market. Google doesn't even bother to check for safety issues or viruses either. that makes their server susceptible to hackers, that can compromise your email, and even your personal bank account info is at risk. Yikes!

In fact here's an article stating that Al Queada prefers android store because it is easy to upload programs and distribute them across the world undetected.
Now Available in the Android Store: An App for Terrorists

#8 reason why android sucks:
They have a lot of useless features like a stylus to type with. Huh! I'm not handicap. I have working fingers. Or run two apps on the same screen. That's dumb! Why would I wanna watch a movie and read my bible app at the same time? What is this bump crap? You mean I gotta fly to NY to touch phones with someone to send something. To make matters worse is millions are spent to develop these features and users never even use them.

#9 reason why android sucks:
App developers don't make much money. Which is why the apps are so cheesy looking.

#10 reason why android sucks:
Soon as a new one come out the old one is worthless. That means they don't hold value. That's cuz they're trash. My 64GB iPhone 4S still worth at least $250 three years after it was released.

#11 reason why android sucks:
They're monopolizing the economy by buying up every small market cell phone company, phone programmers, other company patents, and software. That mean they will ruin the whole market if they get too big. Just like how Microsoft was sued by the government in the 1990's for monopoly that messed up the electronic technology market.

#12 reason why android sucks:
What's the point of having multiple memory chips to add RAM when you can only use one at a time. I want all my stuff in one place so I don't have to switch back and forth to use an app or watch a video.

#13 reason why android sucks:
Has no warranty. If your phone gets lost, stolen, or malfunctions, you still have to come off a $200-300 deductible to replace it. And that's with insurance. Awful.

#14 reason why android sucks:
Even when it has the same app as Apple, it has less features, color, and functionality. For instance AT&T Uverse app has a unique remote control feature exclusive only to the iPhone.

#15 reason why android sucks:
#Fragile. Better not drop one or you'll cough up some money to replace it. OUCH

#16 reason why android sucks:
People lose android phones, meanwhile iPhones are stolen.

#17 reason why android sucks:
Their phone are like Lego blocks...It's snaps together.

#18 reason why android sucks:
If Samsung had such a revolutionary superior product then please explain these numbers to me: Market Cap of Samsung Electronics $173 Billion dollars Vs Apple Inc $720 Billion Dollars (nearly 5 times the value)?

Lets list everything SamSuck makes: refrigerators, TVs, phones, tablets, computers, stove, washer, dryer, microwave, printer, Blu-ray dvd player, camera, camcorder, vacuum cleaners, security camera, watches, baby monitor, headphones, surround sound speakers

Apple only sales: phones, tablets, computers, iTunes, mp3 player, and still makes 5x more money than samsung. In fact Apple is the richest Tech company.

#19 reason why android sucks:
They boast on market dominance when they have 42 (not including the ones I couldn't find) manufacturers: HTC, Samsung, LG, T-Mobile brand phone, Wal-Mart prepaid phone, Metro PCS, Motorola, Pantech, Sharp, Sony(Xperia), ZTE, Sprint's brand phone, Kyocera, Droid, Huawei, Coolpad, Chaser, Venture, BLU, GIGABYTE, Karbonn, Lenovo, Micromax, Google, Oppo, Philips, Spice, Alcatel, Acer, Asus, Celkon, Dell, Garmin-Asus, Ice-Mobile, INQ, Meizu, NIU, Orange, Panasonic, Plum, Toshiba, Xiaomi, VeryKool, Yezz ...How can you even brag on market dominance when apple only makes one phone model. Yet Apple's products are accounted for over 70% of the bandwidth for data tablets and cellphones. So really Apple is winning in the market share too.

Source:
All ZTE phones

#20 reason why android sucks:
The 40+ manufacturers total to over 2,500(including tablets) products licensed by android. However, Apple only has a total of 18 products licensed. Yet Apple is worth 5x more money than android. Android ought to be ashamed to boast in this category. That's why you don't spend millions of dollars on phones and then give them away. The company is losing money.

Source:
http://techpinions.com/why-androids-market-share-is-no-threat-to-apples-ios-platform/12800

#21 reason why android sucks:
Only Android would be dumb enough to release the same phone on multiple hardware platforms. The Droid Razr by Motorola is the Exact same phone as the Droid DNA by HTC.

#22 reason why android sucks:
They compensate phone quality for an oversized screen. Who cares about a huge screen? Hello it's a phone not a TV. If I put that crappy phone up to my TV, I wouldn't even notice the phone.

#23 reason why android sucks:
Android customers buy Apple computers and tablets, but say I won't buy an iPhone because they suck. That's condescending, considering google makes tablets and computers.

#24 reason why android sucks:
Because they have over 40 different phone manufacturers, you don't know what you're getting. And none of them are on the same page. They all run different software versions. Then they're not compatible with each other. Not all have the same features and specs but are all released the same fiscal year so that's no excuse.

#25 reason why android sucks:
Android users buy a phone because a commercial brainswashed to believe its better than an iPhone. They didn't try the phone out, test it, do a trial run, they just run to whatever phone has a commercial down playing the iPhone. Happened since HTC Evo came out in 2010. Now Samsung, LG, HTC, even Windows and Firephone makes pop shot ads towards Apple. Yet iPhone and iPad gets way sell more than any of these competitors in spite of bad publicity.

#26 reason why android sucks:
people say iPhone cost too much, well android have several phones that cost the same, and even a few that cost several times more than iPhones do. Even Amazon FirePhone cost more than iPhone.

#27 reason why android sucks:
Android(Google) is an American company no doubt, but it is an America company that is ran and manufactured in 100s of other countries and not Google. Apple is an American company planned & designed in America. Just built in foreign countries.

#28 reason why android sucks:
Every phone gets bigger and bigger. Pretty soon it's gonna be a boombox instead of a phone. Because the phones are way too big, you have to carry the phone like a handbag. Maybe that's why people lose 'em cuz they set 'em down and forget 'em. Plus you look like an complete idiot holding a phone the size of an brick up to your head.

#29 reason why android sucks:
Just out the blue phones lose contacts, pictures, data. Why brag on being able to use SD cards if that still don't keep your data saved?

Even android users hate android

Android Lollipop SUCKS! - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

#30 reason why android sucks:
Customization is nice but it allows for more things to break. These include themes and design. Mistypes and mistaps are frequent. The “Android experience” varied depending on manufacturer. All the different android skins makes it hard to use another android device, or help a friend learn theirs. SenseUI, TouchWiz, and MotoBlur are all different. TouchWiz looks like an iPhone and MotoBlur is a mess with all their social networking widgets. These skins load on top of Android making it slower.

#31 reason why android sucks:
When I get a long text from Android phones, I get some of it. then while I'm responding back here comes the rest. Why is that?

#32 reason why android sucks:
So Galaxy is superior, but iPhone 6 is outselling the Galaxy S5, Note 4, and Note Edge put together? man please! Every high end smartphone combined still loses in sells to just the single iPhone. In fact the iPhone from the previous years still outsell every phone on the market put together.

#33 reason why android sucks:
Phone has bugs. When iPhone had a bug in an update, it was fixed in a day. Android is still dealing with the same problems from the first day they came out. Having apps forced to close, can't receive a call, setting the alarm and it not working

#34 reason why android sucks:
Users have no idea what tech really is. People bragged on screen size for years, but said iPhone copied because they increased the screen size. That is not a feature. It's like bragging on a bigger size TV. Most users are wowed by hardware numbers for instance: 3GB of DDr3 RAM, when they have no clue what RAM or DDr3 even means. Like you need 3GB of RAM to text. (Hint, more RAM means more things you can do at once) It will never get any faster than it is now. But Android will keep propping up specs because all they see is numbers. Not knowing the phone doesn't even run off the 8 core processor it boasts to have. It usually only uses two cores. Making it outperformed by the lessor beefed up iPhone.

High number specs don't make the phone better. Apple purposely used an 8mp camera 4 years straight because camera phones with 20mp can't seem to make better quality pictures than an 8mp camera. No one ever said my phone experience was better because I have 3GB of RAM instead of 2.5GB. iPhone does more with less specs. (Laughing at Apple paying Samsung for parts is condescending. When you pay someone to do a job for you, they work for you!)

#35 reason why android sucks:
Manufacturers will always back Apple. You go to Fry's, Target, Wal-Mart, even department stores like JC Penny, you will see an iPhone/iPod/iPad section for all kinds of cases, gadgets, charging ports. And not hand-me-down tech, but high quality stuff like BOSE audio port, or TIMEX iPhone dock. You get way more opportunity with Apple to expand. You can get a guitar and buy an port to turn your iPhone/iPad into a amplifier. You can buy a police scanner that plugs right into the phone. You can buy a heart monitor. I have a helicopter that I can fly with my iPhone. Lots of other things too like starting a Chevy Cruse, opening garage door, piano kits, Karaoke player, DJ board, Blood pressure monitor…the list goes on

Sucks trying to buy extra stuff for your LG G3, HTC Evo, Google Nexus, HTC M8 phone in a store that only has limited android casing for Samsung because it is the biggest android seller. But the sizes don't fit the Note series, or the Edge series. Even if you do have the correct phone, you can't buy any attachments add ons like the thousands iPhone users have access to. So people who claim Android can do more than iPhone have no idea what an iPhone can do.

#36 reason why android sucks:
People with android phones think they have a good phone until I show 'em all an iPhone can do. Then they say a phone doesn't need to have all that. #teamiphone

#37 reason why android sucks:
Phandroids think their phone is different, but its the same as every other 1000 other android products on the market. How is that unique? Galaxy looks the same since they changed the layout on s2. (The one they got sued for copying Apple's layout. And I certainly expect Galaxy s6 to draw lawsuits. They copied the UI, casing, functionality, placement of the headphone jack, antenna, even the pay name) Androids all look the same. But you think icons on a screen on the iPhone make it look the same. As if you don't have apps on your screen dumb dumb. To me all android screens look the same. There's more hidden tech on an iPhone than all the tech combined in your precious android device.

I thought customization was cool until I saw how ugly it was on the android phones, and how problem plagued it is, and slows the phone down. The software is horrible compared to iOS. I went to school for computer programming so I'm a tech guy. Android is vulnerable and so many flaws. Being an open source is not a feature, its a liability that people don't understand. That's why the phones get hacked, fragmentation, and viruses so much. And they have the nerve to have Google Wallet, Samsung pay, and fingerprints on a phone with so many security issues that even the government said it was unsafe to use.

US government says Android is unsafe

http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/...arning-about-security-on-android-phones/?_r=0

I like iOS cuz its faster, safer, get the new apps a year sometimes before android does, a humongous section of cases, hardware addons, exclusive apps, and more. I understand you like the hardware in android phones, but its a phone, not a computer. Those numbers dont matter in a phone. people who don't know tech are wowed by 3gb of DDR3 RAM, but don't even know what DDr3 means or even RAM. iPhone does more with less tech. That's why Android has 2x more RAM, processor speed, and camera pixels, but still loads slower, processes data slower, and side by side you can't tell the difference between 8mp and 16mp. That's why I like iPhone. They are great with small numbers. But hey buy whatever makes you happy.

#38 reason why android sucks:
Google hasn't done anything right since google.com. Even that was a ripoff of Ask.com and Yahoo.com that was already out in the 1990s. Youtube has gotten worse sense google bought it. Android still doesn't have a problem free software. Even this site was a pain to type on. You can't find any of the headers, tabs to the page you looking for, I have to go through a series of pages just to get to the one page I was looking for.

What's crazy is people laugh at AppleStore years ago for having a high percentage of paid apps and having made people pay for music, then the AndroidMarket was scrapped for GooglePlay. An exact copycay of the AppleStore. What's worse is google customers are also marketed by Google, without their knowing. Good harnesses their data and sells it to the CIA and NSA. Known fact that CIA is working on suing Apple for making it hard to hack iOS 8. With Apple you are the customer. With Google you are the product.

#39 reason why android sucks:
Navigating on android devices are a pain. Why do samsung have a home button when the back button doubles as an home button? Two home buttons is stupid.com

#40 reason why android sucks:
iPhone users text like: Hey how are you doing today?
Android users text like: hy hru doin 2day

#41 reason why android sucks:
The S pen on the galaxy note makes it more like an Etch-a-scetch LOL

#42 reason why android sucks:
Why would you buy a $700 galaxy S series/LG/Z series phone, when you can buy an android phone of another manufacturer with the same specs for $75? Android is suppose to be affordable not expensive.

#43 reason why android sucks:
Nothing good has 'oid' in it ... hemorrhoid, tabloid, rheumatoid (arthritis), steroid, thyroid, paranoid, or android. That's why I avoid LOL #androidsucks

#44 reason why android sucks:
Android users buy iPods and iPads but say they don't like iPhones. Silly Rabbit…if you bought an iPad/iPod and use Android phones, you might as well buy an iPhone. Because iPads, iPod, and iPhones have the same technology.

#45 reason why android sucks:
To think none of y'all would have a galaxy if not for a commercial claiming to be better than iPhone. Who do you know with a galaxy s1, s2, or any other phone before samsumg started making commercials downplaying Apple? Why if android is so great, that the only main phone selling is the galaxy? Reviews show that galaxy isn’t even the best android phone. They just sells the most android phones. People are still using 1st iPhone. Apple makes quality products, that perform well, and outlast competitors. Nothing but mindless sheep watching low grade commercials buying android phones.

#46 reason why android sucks:
People be the nicest people on earth 'til they find out you got an iPhone. Android users are so annoyingly sensitive over their phones. My question to you is, what do my preference in electronics have anything to do with you? Just thank God you have money to buy a phone and pay the bill in the first place.

#47 reason why android sucks: Being the only one in the room with an iPhone makes you stand out in the crowd. Being the only one in the room with an android makes you look lonely, outdated, and silly.

#48 reason why android sucks:
Google, Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC, and no telling how many other android backing companies, have all taken pop shots at Apple in advertising to make a sell. (Samsung has more Apple ads than all companies combined). But that has only boosted Apple's sales. It was like free PR for them. To make it more stupid, they never target other Android companies that they compete against for android customers. Just think hey let me tag Apple's name and I'll make some good money

#49 reason why android sucks:
It costs $347 to make a Galaxy phone. It takes $227 to make an iPhone. Both sale for the same exact retail price, but iPhone is worth over $100 more in resale. That should show you how much in terms how badly Samsung sucks and android sucks!

#50 reason why android sucks:
Actors, singers, doctors, lawyers, teachers, job recruiters, business managers, prefer iPhone by over 95%. Can't remember seeing anyone on this list with anything else.

Lol. I can't believe you put that much effort into proving your a Mac fan.

And for all that effort (I honesty gave up reading after #10) I still wouldn't buy any iCrap. My family in Texas used iCrap products and I constantly hear complaints. So if you are happy with your Mac then you could have just said that and called it a day. Lol

You like someone else doing all the thinking for you? J/k

I know that you were joking...but i find this comment common place among Android users. Per your words, you're NOT a power user...and i doubt that you modify your LG G2/4 much...and given that you prefer LG skin, this means that you don't mind other folks (e.g. LG) THINKING FOR YOU. And given the bloatware of LG vs. Apple, i think that folks who state what you wrote are just fooling themselves.

The only folks that can say above are those who root their devices...and most of those prefer Nexus pure Android software vs. horrid bloatware from LG/Samsung/HTC. Most of the bloatware make changes for the sake of change, not because it makes Android better. And those who buy LG/Samsung etc are literally asking for someone with inferior resources to think for you. Not exactly confidence inspiring, no?

And it is these very bloatware that (among a few other things) prevent you from getting timely updates for your phone...where things can lag 4-6 months if you're lucky! :(

I've rooted my phones/tablets in the past, removed all the bloatware and even upgraded the Android kernel when the mood descended.

It's not that hard to grab a "clean" version of Android and install it so your assumption that I don't know what I am talking about would be categorized as false.

Look, I was truly joking. Seriously if you like your iPhone there is nothing wrong with that. I honestly don't care. I won't lose a wink of sleep over it.

But I can't resist the urge to pull on the iCrowd because they got so easily offended and are militant about saying how iStuff is only found in the hands of society's elite. (see the long winded post above)

Now I just use my phone for a phone with added features though. I don't care about the latest hardware, the latest software, etc. I certainly don't care what other people think about my phone as I don't really care to be seen as part of the cool crowd. I've been out of high school long enough to know that the only person I need to impress is myself. Heck, I don't even style my hair but my wife loves my anyway so I guess I'm doing something right. ;)

Have a nice day. :D

And your assumption that the iCrowd is seemingly ignorant is wrong. I probably know more about Android than most Android owners.

You think that Phandroids are not equally militant and ignorant? Seriously?! Look at what you care about...RAW?! I assume mega-pixels are important too? :D

Personally, i went with iOS after years of Android because of reliability, customer service (can't beat walking into local mall for help/exchange), more quality apps in my field, excellent camera that is easy to use, AND privacy. The last part is very important. I am a former Gmail user until i read their privacy (or lack of). Same with Hangout. No thanks!

Now I never once said anyone was ignorant(go back and show me where I wrote that). My coworker is one of the smartest people I know and he likes his iPhone 6. He showed me some of the cool features it has for video editing and I was impressed. Not enough to want one but it does have nice features.

And sure both sides of the fence are going to pollute the gene pool equally. When it comes to touching up photos RAW is the preferred format. Does that mean I am ignorant because I want to try to take advantage of a feature that may or may not improve a shot? Have you seen a G4 and actually seen that it is garbage? Yes, we already discussed the
Iimitations of the hardware but I won't rule it put until I have seen it for myself. As far as mega-pixels who cares? How is this a constructive argument any more by trying to derogatory of features I find intriguing?

I am glad your iPhone suits you (as I said earlier). Sure it is nice to walk into a mall for customer service but since I have owned my first cell phone I have never needed to go to any outlet. As for apps, I have found the Google Play store more than adequate for what I want. Most of which are free.

My G2 has been reliable over the last 2 years and my wife is currently using it now as well until October when she can upgrade to what ever phone she wants (including an iPhone if that's what she wants). As for privacy, I am old school. Never put anything on your phone you don't mind sharing with the world. Any OS can be defeated and phones most easily of all. And yes, that includes iOS. I work in a secured facility that constantly deals with cyber espionage so am well versed in this area. That and I was a Computer Science major until I switched to EE.

Oh, and I never used Hangout or many of the other bloat ware apps. I have an app that constantly force stops all apps not on an approved list. Not the same as removing them but it keeps the memory free and is pretty effective. As secure as iOS. No but until M goes main stream it will have to do since rooting the G4 will permanently disable DRM in the kernel at this time in the US.
