Installation:
Pretty much same as the other threads. Used stock harness. Replaced the resister with a 47uF 100V Electrolytic Non-Polarized Crossover Capacitor (about a 800 Hz highpass).

Driver side speaker bracket was almost a direct fit, just had to trim the inside "ears" from the stock speaker bracket and one of the speaker tabs. The passenger side removed the left side bracket, trimmed to fit and installed.

Overview:
Probably the best sounding single speaker (not coax) upgrade available. Mid bass super tight but could use a little more top end. Overall a worthy alternative to the JBL, JL, Infinity everyone else is using. Might consider changing the resistor value to get a lower high pass, maybe a 133uF (around 300 Hz), but it sound good for now. Guess depends on if I change door speakers or not, or if adding amplifier.


Being in Hawaii, shipping costs from PE was crazy expensive, but you continental folks might get small or even free shipping. Cost per speaker is $20. I ended up buying them from Amazon for about $50 with shipping.

I have this driver as well. It's made in Italy and the build quality seems pretty good. Got it about a month ago or so. It has the highest sensitivity I have seen in the 3-3.5" range, meaning that it can get loud with little power. It is very, very detailed, more so than the Kappa 32.9 cf or the GX302. The driver is a bit bright on the upper frequency range. The frequency response chart on parts-express shows a peak on the upper range, but that it goes down when placed a bit off-axis. So I'm still playing with the EQ and the driver positioning to try to tame the brightness a bit. I have the JBL on a 2013, which may have a bit of boost built in the app in that range as well. Have you noticed the brightness in yours and have you done anything to correct it?

I don't know that I've seen a 3" woofer. The OEM dash speakers are full range speakers. I would think a woofer would limit the high frequencies.

Not sure why this is listed as a woofer, since this is a full range driver that goes up to 20k Hz. Here's the frequency response chart.

I've had this for about 6 months but had installed it in my gf Highlander, just got the 4r last week. In the non jbl, it's not super bright so I cannot help you there (I actually wish it was a little brighter without maxing out the treble on the radio). I'll probably be amplifying them in the future tho.

This validates my suspicion that the JBL amp is internally boosting the upper frequencies to "improve" the sound of the crappy OEM speakers. I will be replacing the amp in the next month or so as well (have replaced the head unit already). That being said, I'm impressed with the clarity of the midrange.

I actually get better treble performance than the pioneer coax I just replaced. It's strange though, the pioneer coax perform better in the Highlander and the faital perform better in the 4runner

Installed some new components

Kenwood XR-1800p $179 on Amazon
7" woofer with mounting bracket
1.75" tweeter
Crossover unit

80% outer skin cld coverage
Caulking rope for reinforcement bar
40% inner door cld coverage
Aluminum flashing with cld to cover holes

Don't mind the crossover mounted in door. Temporary till amp install. Just needed temp mount using factory speaker harness to power and break in.

Overall, mid bass is much tighter. Hits some pretty low frequencies much better than stock. Had tweeter installed (not shown) temporarily for sound. Pure ghetto just dangling in corner.

If I didn't already change the dash speakers, I would have wanted to try the Kenwood 6x9 component set KFC-XP6903P. 6x9 with a 3.5" coax
