Another Fluids Question...

I did my transmission oil change successfuly and on to the transfer case...more oil on hand from a previous vehicle is 80-90W gear oil...the manual calls for 75-90W. Is 80-90W OK?

Transfer should be 75w90- been running Mobil Delvac with good success. Also use in the front diff.
Rear diff gets Mobil HD 80w90.

I was using 75w-90 Redline full synthetic gear oil for both diffs and the transfer case, but after filming the videos we made with East Coast Gear Supply, I'm now going to be running Lucas 85w-140 Non-Synthetic in both diffs. This is what ECGS recommends.

Tim, It'd be interesting to know if the 85w-140 leads to lower mileage and/or slower acceleration once you switch. I once put Mobil 1 75W-140 in the rear diff on a 4 cyl 4WD Toyota truck, and I could easily tell that acceleration was slowed down a bit.
Also, how long will your change interval be on the rear diff?

I plan on changing my diff gear oil at 10k intervals.

I imagine the thicker gear oil could lead to a drop in mpg. My truck even with the re-gear to 4.88s is still a slug because of how heavy I am with the bumpers, full belly skids and roof rack.

I didn’t notice anything on my 96 with the 3.4
