Well, I rolled the grocery getter on Sunday. I was driving down towards Kremling from Rabbit Ears Pass and the road was 90% dry and clear, however there were patches where the wind had blown snow and iced the road over. So imagine 1/4 mile of dry pavement followed by 100ft of sheet ice, followed by more dry pavement. I was coming around a left-hand bend at about 45mph and came onto a ice patch and the back end stepped out. I corrected, but the back end came around the other way and I started skidding sideways. We popped back out onto the dry pavement, caught traction and rolled over driver's side first. We did a full roll and ended up back on the tires.
Myself and two buddies were in the car, and we all walked away with no injuries to speak of, just paper-cut sized scratches and seat belt bruises. Funny thing is, a Suburban rolled in the exact same spot not 10 minutes before we did. They were also unharmed, despite their dog being ejected out the window. The cops were actually already on the way when we crashed. Let this be a lesson:
ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SEATBELT
The 4runner is in insurance limbo right now. Definitely totalled, but I'm waiting to see how the money works out. I'm currently on the lookout for another 5-speed runner, FZJ80 or Tundra in the Denver area if anyone has any leads. I will also probably have a fair amount of parts to sell in the near future, so keep an eye out for that.
I am incredibly grateful to be OK and that my two good buddies are also OK. I know our guardian angel was looking out for us, and I'm also grateful that the 4runner gave it's life to save ours.
