Another Retrofit!

Something I do a lot of are retrofits, it's a consequence of living somewhere where we have 4 hours of daylight in the winter. I finally got around to doing the runner!

It's not exactly a budget build but I also didn't go all out.

TYC Housings - $46 Each ($92.00)
Morimoto D2S Elite Kit: ($124.00)
- Mini D2S 4.0 Projectors ($120.00)
- 35W XB35 Ballasts
- D2S 4500k Bulbs
- Iris Shrouds

So all in, I'm in for about $336 plus two hours of my time. I have to say, it was one of the easiest retros I've ever done!

One thing I noticed is how TRS' quality has improved over the years. I have some old stock FX-R 3.0's and 5Five ballasts and they're night and day now.

I'll get everything installed and buttoned up tomorrow night!

Those look sharp. This is definitely something I plan on doing soon. Dumb question, but does Morimoto supply all the necessary hardware for the projector install?

Depending on which projector you pick, some come with threaded shafts so everything snugs up on its own! Other ones you have to get more creative with JB Weld and screws. I know for sure that the Mini H1 and Mini D2S are threaded.

But how do you make the separate halo ? Is that a part of the whole projector ? Let's say I wanted a green halo. And only turn it on separately

Looks great bud. I have the same kit except with panamera shrouds. Looking to install soon.

You have options! If you want to go stand-alone then you could consider something like this: https://www.theretrofitsource.com/led-lighting/led-halos-strips/morimoto-xbt-rgb-led-halos.html

Or you could also go with a shroud that is integrated (if you wanted amber switchbacks for example): https://www.theretrofitsource.com/components/shrouds/mini-x5-r-switchback-led.html

I use the TRS product as examples as they're my go-to for gear. Matt, Zach, Jamielle and the rest of the crew have always gone the extra mile for me so I like to return the favour whenever I can.

What do you recommend? Is the second one full projector with halo as one ?

If you go stand alone. How much harder is the install. And does the halos get a separate switch ?

Got everything installed tonight. Spent a bunch of time chasing a bad ground on the drivers side - fixed it by changing the orientation of the igniter from 6:00 to 9:00. Strangest thing.

Still need to adjust the passenger side cutoff as it's a hair too low.

kolelt - I'm not sure which would be easier, the XBT looks like a really cool system as you can control the colours by bluetooth. You'd wire it on a seperate circuit and switched power to the dash.
