Another tire advice question

2008 4Runner SR5 265/65/17. Every two years at the beginning of winter I put new tires on my vehicle because at this point they are starting to wear. Its coming to that time again. Looking for a tire that is quiet, but will provide good traction when it is wet or when roads get snow covered. Live in PA, so winters are not as bad as some other states. I do not do any off road driving at all. Currently have Firestone Destination AT's on the vehicle. I must say that it is a quiet tire and the wear is just ok. But honestly, I am very disappointed in the performance of these tires on wet or snow covered roads. In 2WD I was all over the road. In 4WD a little better but still not that good. I am not interested in dedicated snow tires. I am looking for something that I can leave on year round and get by with in the winter. Don't get me wrong, the destinations are a decent tire, just did not work for me during those few snow events in the winter. Can I get some of your opinions on what may work for me:shrug:? Thanks!

Michellin LTX MS2. I had them before my Duratracs
 
ive got the ltx ms/2's on now, been on for less than 3 weeks. took me to nh and back towing 4200lbs, silent the whole way, so far im impressed, rain traction is good, knowing new england i should be seeing how they do in the snow before the month is over
 
Thanks for the input! Alot of people seem happy with the LTX MS/2's as a top notch all around tire. They are a bit more than I want to spend, but I guess you get what you pay for?
 
I LOVE my Cooper AT3's. They are quiet for a very good AT tire. Not as quiet as a HT tire. And around here..they are a lot cheaper then the Michelins.

Another good tire would be the Cooper Discover HT's. Very quiet..and decent for snow. Not too bad off-road...but wouldn't try to do any mudding.
 
I've been reading many good things about the Cooper AT3 tire. There are several dealers near me. They are about $170 per tire installed and am considering these also. I really don't take the 4runner off road at all. I do all city/highway driving. However, here in NE PA there are several times during the winter months when you need a reliable tire to get you to work and back home. The Firestone Destination AT's that I currently have do not provide traction when the roads are snow covered. And I don't mean heavy snow, just snow covered after the plow went by. It is a good tire otherwise and is very quiet, but I find them scary in the snow, even when they were brand new. I'm not looking for dedicated snow tires, just something that will provide some traction and that I can feel confident driving with.
 
Another all weather option is the Nokia Rottiva.

Nokian Rotiiva AT

Popular overseas for their all around performance. But not a lot of recognition here outside their dedicated 'Hakka' winter lineup.

You can't go wrong with the Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2, either. I've got my third set sitting in the basement, but I'm not going to mount them until right before winter. I've still got some tread left on my current set but they were on sale so I grabbed them.

They're super quiet, they balance well, and they look great. I've got about 40,000 miles on my current set and they've still got enough tread to easily pass NH inspection, but I prefer having new tires for winter driving.

Just my $0.02.
 
I'm at my dealer right now getting M/S 2's. Lol They have a great sale on, buy three, get one for a dollar. Mine are $840 installed. Great tire, will rot off before wearing off.

Your tires only last 2 years? What in the world do you drive on, gravel 24/7?

2 years is pretty good for me. For me it's the number of miles I drive. 30k+ miles a year..it's tough to get much more then 2 years on a set of tires. 3 years ago I was averaging 40k miles a year....16 months was about the norm for new tires.

After two years of driving, the tires are not worn out where they will not pass inspection by any means, but the grip on wet and snow covered roads is sub par. I would rather spend the money for new tires and feel confident, than try to get through a winter and get lucky.

Alright, touche. I've had my 2004 since it was new and I'm only on my second set of new tires. So, third set total. And I just bought those two days ago.

you can get these for a LOT better price installed than that, esp. with the $80 rebate they have this month.

This made me laugh. You do realize that's $210 per tire? Or $240 each for 3?
 
Basically, in the end it appears that he paid regular price for the tires and the buy 3 get one for a dollar was just your typical sales scam that fools the consumer into believing they are getting a good deal.
 
Yep, I agree. Local tire shop was $870 installed for four. Saved big bucks. Lol
The two places I looked online were like $220 a piece plus installation. Those tires arent cheap, but worth it. Imo
