Another Vibration Question

Hey guys, I am in hopes of your help. 2000 SR5 4wd. I have a vibration and it appears to be up front somewhere in the drive line. I will explain but a list of things done to date: New steering rack, OTRE, ITRE, New CV axles, New Lower Ball Joints, New, longer, stabilizer end links and bushings. Total Chaos upper control arm, King coilovers, differential drop kit. I, also, had the rear drive shaft checked and the mechanic installed a new yoke and a u-joint. New TRD Pro rims and new tires balanced with the finger plate.

Now, I have a vibration at around 55 to 60 mph and at 68 to 75 mph. It is worse when accelerating and much worse when in 4H and accelerating. The vibration is present when cruising but not nearly as bad. The vibration was present before the 2 1/2" lift install but the lift exacerbated it. Any Ideas?

Yikes, did you do all that at once? Hard to tell if you mean the vibration was already there and then all that made it worse, or if something on that list made it appear.

I found that my vibration was a combination of many things. No one thing got rid of it. Happened at those same speeds. I can give you a list of parts to check and replace.

I did those things over the past year. The vibration was there but it was sorta minor. I chased the vibration with new tires and rims and several wheel balances. I adjusted the ride height up another inch or so when I installed the new wheels (OEM) and 285's. That is when it got bad.

Gotcha, ok. I had a similar vibration at 55+ which tire & rim changes did not get rid of completely either. I felt the shake both in the steering wheel (if I took my hands off the wheel it shook side to side) and in the seat. Where do you feel the vibration?

For vibrations you feel in the seat, there's an issue with the wheels or tires. I'm guessing with the wheel and tire change, you probably don't have it. But if you do, have them balance the tires again. 4Runners are very picky about tire balancing.

For vibrations in the steering wheel, it's a lot of different factors. Here's the worst offenders I encountered:

• Tie rods (inner)
• Lower ball joint
• Steering rack bushings
• Steering rack guide (if worn)
• Sway bar bushings (makes shake worse if old)

You've already replaced some of those, so it's a pretty short list of parts to look at next. Rack bushings can be checked by jacking up the front end and having someone more the wheels side to side. If the rack moves with it, they are shot. The guide is a little more tricky to check but since you have a 2000, it's unlikely that's the culprit.

Is the vibration there in 2HI? You mentioned 4HI.

When I am in 4wd everything is vibrating because I'm off-road. Unless you are in 4wd on pavement (we are talking 4wd not multimode AWD I presume) then it should be pretty hard to isolate.

I have had a number of vibration issues over the years. All of them have been related to wheels out of balance and even two bent wheels. It is not uncommon for a tire guy with a balancing machine to miss smaller imbalances that will only show up with a test drive under specific conditions.

Now if you are saying you completely swapped the wheels and tires and it is still there .. Well that sucks.

Thank you. Yes, I have the vibration in 2H but it is worse in 4H. It is most prevalent under acceleration. New OEM Wheels and Tires. I have had them road force balanced and with the finger plate. I'll get to to the bottom of this and when I do, all the world will know.
