Another wheel fitment 231mm brake upgrade question

I have been through a lot of the threads on this and I am 90 percent sure I have this right, but just need confirmation on this statement...

1997 T4R 4wd the 231mm front brake upgrade will NOT work on 16" wheels.

The split 3's wont work with the 231's without grinding.. Unfortunately, I think they're the only 16" factory wheel that doesn't work with the big ones.

I know that I have 1/4" wheel spacers in the front. Not sure if that would help. What would I have to grind?

They might clear with a 1/4" spacer.

You need to grind on the wheel. I would also get them balanced if you go that route. I run a 1.25" spacer that helped me clear the brakes and clear the UCA when running larger tires.

The calipers fit with the 16s and the spacers without having to grind the wheels. I did have to trim the backing plate a little. Now my guy says the caliper bolts wont work. (Too long?)

Is this right?
